Figured I would do a journal this year. Going to target marten, mink, and otter.
Checked my sets at lunch today. Only put out 8 and did pretty well.

Perfect suitcase catch.

Nice start,,,
was glad to see this thread, always enjoy them.
Congrads! this should be a great thread! Good Luck trapping!
Nice work
Thanks guys. Not a big fan of setting blind with no snow. Might go check them again on Friday. Depends on the weather, I don't like to leave them sitting unchecked if it isn't cold out. I'll post some pics when I get them boarded. Trying to process a couple of deer right now.
Looks like it was a good day to me!

Jeff
Thanks for the pics. I always like to see what others are trapping.

Are those 110's?
That's a nice catch ! What did they go for last year ? $100 ?

I have a friend in Hoonah that trapped about 30 marten last year.

Good luck !
Nice, Hank.

I use 120's. No clue what they went for, I haven't shipped any to auction in a number of years.
Cool thread, Hankster.
Checked them quick at lunch. 3 of my sets had been messed with, but no catches. The critters will probably be holed up due to all this rain we are getting.
Thanks for posting.

Nice work! I'll be waiting this thread. I set some foothold traps for coyotes for the first time this year. Checked this morning and six sets had been worked but my traps were frozen. Next time. Good luck and I'm anxious to see your next post.
Looking forward to seeing the progress of this thread play out. Good luck this year and may your traps be full of prime fur.
Not going to have too many updates until after the new year, going on vacation in a week.

Got another marten today. smile
Nice!
Keep 'em coming,
how's that set,is the 120 placed at the bottom of the bucket or on a limb leading to it?
Picked up another marten yesterday.

The flower pot holds the 120 in place. When the trap fires it swings free. A stack of 50 pots is less than $30 on amazon, and about 3' tall. Super easy and fast.

Looks like an easy way for a bucket set without having to mess with cutting the bucket. Wonder if there's a flower pot size appropriate for a body grip for a coon?

Not sure, what coni's are you using for coon?
Picked up one very soggy marten today. Caught it in a mink set which is unusual, haven't caught many using fish for bait.

That flower pot is so simple it's brilliant.

I can't claim this idea myself, got it off another forum a while back. Works like a charm though!
what bait are you putting in that pot, and what smells are you using.
A piece of deer hide goes in the back of the pot and I use Gusto as a call lure.
you're rackin 'em up,how many sets you have out?
12 total between my mink and marten sets.

None yet as I've never trapped. Most suppliers list the 160s as the smallest recommended for raccoons.

160's work ok on coons. A lot of states have maximum sizes you can set on land. A quick search on google and it looks like your max size for body grippers on land is 7.5", which allows you to use 220's.

Thanks for looking that up and the info.
Good work hank, been dropping the iron on anything else?
Finally back from vacation. Ran the line today and picked up this guy.

Alright funs over, get back at that line!!.We've been waiting, lol
Very cool. I like the flower pot set
Picked up another one today.

Nothing on the last check. Re-lured the sets with more Gusto.
Got this guy last night. Nice color on it and a real nice throat patch

Cool!
nice!,
is it slowing down ,or do you move your areas?
It's been slow but steady. I am trapping a pretty small area, it normally isn't cold enough to let them go without checking for more than a day or two. The wind can really howl down here and it can make getting to the beach really difficult. I am hoping to cover a little more area next year. I only have a couple of weeks left but I will more than likely pull my sets early, I have enough to get a nice hat made so I am happy with the season.
Yeah skiff trapping is a whole nother kinda deal isn't it Hank? I'v got a handfull of otter sets close to town that I can't get to cause of this storm. Congrats on the marten!
Very nice! I used Gusto the last two seasons, good stuff!
I love Gusto! Smells like money to me, haha! Ran the line for the last time today. My catch has fallen off and I am happy with the season so far so I called it good. Only had action at one set, but either the marten climbed on the spring and knocked the trap out or snow falling from the trees knocked it out. Got a free meal. Always next year.

Nothing on the trapline so I went and jigged up some dinner instead.

Very nice! That yellow eye, must have made a great dinner! One of my favorite meals.

Hi FishinHank,

I would love to see a picture of your "so simple it's brilliant" flower pot sets mentioned earlier in this thread. Those pictures seem to be deleted. I am a new trapper and looking for a flower pot idea.
Used to love following these threads, haven't heard from Hank as much.
He must be in love,,,, grin
I wish Rong, My sails used to be full when my trapping journal was on tman but they deleted it. That was a solid source of all kinds of info and its gone now.......
I didn't know what I was doing anyways, but it was fun to tag along! I see they deleted everything over on Tman
My 2011/2012 journal was pretty fun.......4 wolverines and a lynx.

I caught 3 wolverine this year, all big boars but lynx are making a fool of me. I pulled my entire wolverine line on Sunday and reset yesterday in lower, better lynx habitat. I want at least one lynx this year and have 2 separate lines out specifically for them now.
Good luck, I hope you get one! The one we got was way out of its normal area.

I really miss trapping wolverines
