By Paul Lockhart (2008)

Recently finished this scholarly work on the Baron de Steuben ( yes he preferred the French title).

Finally a definitive work on this soldier who was the instrumental force in the development of a standard drill, tactics and discipline in the fledgling Continental Army. The good, the bad, and the political wrangling of both the Continental Army AND congress explained.

A must read for any military scholar.

One famous quote that burned into my memory was one of Alex Hamilton. When something like "I never realized discipline was so important on the battlefield???"

Many had no clue.
Thanks.
Thanks for that. An American History buff is getting that for Christmas. Abebooks shows another used hardcover for less than 6 bucks.
Thanks for recommendation . My wife is the librarian for her local DAR chapter. Sounds like I should order a copy/

Sounds like a good read.

BTW, anyone ever need a recommendation for ANYTHING on the Napoleonic Wars...I have THE library.
