Book--"Desert Star" by Michael Connelly - 11/14/22
This is Michael Connelly's latest book. It is a Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard novel. A city councilman has pushed the LA Police Dept. to open a dedicated Cold Case Unit. Renee Ballard is to head it and she convinces Harry to join it as a volunteer. There are others in the unit including a former cop and an FBI retired agent and others. Harry agrees to join if he can work a case that has been haunting him for years-- that of a murdered family that was executed and their bodies buried in the desert. Another case has to be worked first--the rape and murder of the councilman's teen aged sister from years ago.
So, the unit starts working. The councilman's sister is the most pressing case they have because of the political pressure. There are developments that lead in many directions but eventually the guilty person is found. The other case which has haunted Bosch for years takes him out of the state to find a suspect.
There's a big Bosch reveal at the end of the book.
It's a fine book and well worth reading for the entertainment.
