For those of you who are Stephen Hunter fans of the Bob Lee Swagger series, the latest book "G-Man" is now out in the bookstores.

I read it and found it a good addition to the series. It's tough to top the first three Bob Lee Swagger books, and the three Earl Swagger novels, but all the books are entertaining reads.

My first Hunter book was Point of Impact, which I read. Never have found an unabridged audio recording. Next I read Dirty White Boys and Black Light, then A Time to Hunt. Only Hunter book I've not made it through was I Ripper. Got caught up in a James Lee Burke book among a couple dozen others and never made it back.

Just finished the Audible unanbridged audio recording of G-Man. Man what a yarn!

IMHO the best since A Time to Hunt.

Bob Lee / Earl Lee fan here but somewhere in the 47th Samurai era the books, they have lost their appeal to me. Agreed the early ones are awesome. Point of Impact is possibly the best book of it's type ever.

I listened to Stephen Hunter a couple of days ago and picked up a signed copy of this book. Haven't read it yet, but it was good listening to him tell about writing it and pulling it all together.
Hunter is a shooter. His writing shows it.

Yeah, but it was a serendipity when after all those years one reads in "A Time to Hunt", that the realization dawns on BLS, "it's not about you".

47th Samurai was a stretch.

I'm not a long range shooter and have never been in combat, but I very much enjoy shooting and reloading, and to a degree, like gun Gak. At 65 the JFK assassination came at a formative period in my live. I was in 8th grade and even remember that I was in science class when we heard about the POTUS being shot. I also happen to live in Texas, and both John Connolly and LBJ were from Texas. Plus, this book re-introduced the assassin from Point of impact (the name escapes me now). I thought "The Third Bullet was an interesting take. BTW, how many people talk about paper patched bullets these days!

I also got a kick out of Sniper's honor. Did not see the ending coming!

Anywho, when one is driving 6 or 7 hours one way, many times late at night. It sure helps passing the time listening to these on audio.

I picked up the hardcover edition of "G-Man" a few days ago at a Barnes & Noble book store locally. I'm almost finished with it and it is good, although long. It is a huge book!
If you're a Stephen Hunter fan, I think you will enjoy it! (Bob Lee is getting to be my age now, ha, ha...!) Hunter blends the past and the present quite well together, I think?

Yah, it's me. I decided a few years ago to use my own name instead of a "handle".

Pretty good book, not great. Plus there's that one little secret of his that just doesn't fit the character and serves no real purpose in the book unless Stephen Hunter is trying to be PC. As soon as I read that part it tainted the book for me.

Have been a fan of Hunter since years ago read "Dirty White Boys." Although my question isn't firearm related, was hoping someone could clarify a portion of "G-Man" for me. Page 36: Bob asks Jake how much a thousand bucks in 1934 money would be worth today. Jake answers"a thousand in 1934 buys three hundred dollars' worth of goods today". What am I missing here? Given that inflation has increased 1800% , a thousand dollars in1934 is equal to $18000.00 today. Hunter is stating that todays dollar buys more than a dollar in 1934. In 1934 you could buy a car for $750.00 and a house for $7500.00. Just a typo or am I missing something? Thanks in advance. Dgang P.S. Did not catch the firearms mistake early in the book. Anybody talking?

I totally agree with MOGC, the little PC twist at the end was not in character, not foreshadowed, and totally gimmicky. It ruined what was a darn good book up until then.
