This new movie is another story about the fictional Abbey/castle (really Highclere) which follows the English series shown on PBS a few years ago. It has the same actors as the tv series. My wife watched the tv series and liked it and wanted to see the movie so we did. At the beginning there is a trailer lead-in which pretty much tells who and why the characters are and where the storyline comes from, and the movie is about the interactions in Downton Abbey among the family and staff. I enjoyed it and could understand much of what was said but not all-- hearing issues- and think you all might find it enjoyable, too, if you have any interest in such times and people. It's set between the wars, WW1 and 2, and the King and Queen decide to spend the night there and all the hoopla that goes with that sort of thing. Some illegal activities- think assassination- and such. Worth a view, as I said, if this sort of story appeals to you.

Appreciate the review. I wasn’t interested and haven’t seen the TV show, but now I’m reconsidering.

Unlike many here, wife and I enjoy going to movies in a theater, but there is a dearth of offerings that are worth the time and money. Thanks.

Thanks. It's a classy British movie. The verbal exchanges really serve it well.

Golly,.... I thought it was Downtown Abbey. I pictured a high end Hooker.

But, really ...a post Victorian soap opera.
