As I work my way through some of Sandford's many novels this one is a standout. Virgil Flowers is called by his friend Johnson Johnson to help find some dognappers. Many dogs have been stolen and they are sold for various purposes, commonly medical research. For any dog lover this is a disaster and the people who have had their dogs stolen are infuriated. While looking into this problem a local newspaper reporter who is working on a big story is murdered. Three shots in the back. So Virgil gets shifted over to that investigation which is a big deal. One murder after another follows and a huge conspiracy is finally revealed. The dialog is good, there are many characters and the descriptions are clear and make you feel like you could be there.
