This latest Jack Reacher book has Reacher traveling on a Greyhound bus and keeping an eye on things as he notes an old man with a bank envelope in his pocket who is tired and is falling asleep. He notes some young guy eyeing the envelope, too. At the next bus stop everyone gets off and Reacher follows as the young guy starts following the old man and subsequently attacks and takes the envelope. Reacher intervenes and gets the money back and, as the old man is injured a bit, he assists the old man in walking to his home as it's a ways to the house and some of the story comes out as to why the man is carrying so much money and Reacher gets pulled into another situation. Loan sharks. A city divided by two gangs, one Albanian and one Ukrainian, Some Russians somewhere. Fake news. What could go wrong?

As the bodies pile up a good story is told.
My wife and I both read it, unimpressed, not one of the author's better efforts.

Go here, go there, beat up, shoot, kill a few people. Repeat.

Have very much enjoyed the audio book version but the traditional narrator Dick Hill retired recently and that is a big loss for the audio version. Will have to see how the new narrator does with this one.

It was different for sure. I thought the unrealistic story worked but the writing style was as you said and certainly different..
I usually like his books but what Paul 39 said, pretty much the same set of scenarios over and over. He beat up and killed a small army of bad guys with a handgun, best I recall all were one shot kills.
