Just curious, the 20 cal seems to have the best of both worlds when compared to .17 and .22 calibers. Yet it is not very popular. Pellets carry a higher BC than .22 and demonstrate good accuracy like 177. I shoot an R9 in .20 and really like but limited somewhat by pellet selection, can't buy 20 cal at wally world that's for sure.
Could be just that it was only offered by Sheridan(?), at least for awhile.

You hit the nail on the head. Pellets cannot be bought at Wally World or even many major sporting goods stores. 177 and 22 can both be purchased about any place and have several options to choose from.
The 22 in reality probably nearly replicates the trajectory with same same pellets.......

BUT, I too enjoyed an R9 20, and preferred it over 17 and 20. The Crosman Premier 14.3 - believe it's the same or about a copy of the JSB, is about all your really need, but I did get some great accuracy with Beeman Crow Mag. The 14.3s did about 675 or so mv, and flattened tree squirrels like a hammer, around 60-70 yds when I connected.

All work when you place a shot, but if you fall below say 600-650 mv for any, they drop fast. Enjoy your 20 R9.

Another who prefers the .20 over the .177 or .22....

Sheridan was of course first but when Beeman was importing a lot of guns from Europe it was one of his major calibers... RWS and many of the top Euro guns were made in .20 up till a few years ago but you had to look to find them. AirForce PCP guns are still available...

I have a couple of Dans, a Condor SS and a R9...all great guns.

Pellet selection has really gone down. Used to be able to get .20s in the same configurations as most of the other calibers...only a few left now...sad...

About the only pellets I can find are Crossman domed and sometimes it's hard to even find those. Luckally my R9 shoots them well
Bob, I thought they have cut back since I first got that R9........the Premier Domes were THE pellet, all the way around in my book, no need for anything else for hunting, etc. Very accurate, hard hitting, good downrange. Penetrate and kill small game well. The Crosman and JSB should do well in about any 20 cal. I don't mind a limited selection - when I have one that shoots so well. Stock up well, and you will be set.

Was looking over at Pyramid Air and Airguns of Az. last night and there is a pretty good selection of pellets available...

When I heard Crossman was discontinuing the .20 Premier I bought several boxes. It is one of the better shooting pellets for the Condor...

Old posts on .20s...
