I have a RWS in .22 out for a tune up and am looking forward to learning to shoot it. Been reading about air guns, never knew how involved all of this was.

Nice to see a airgun section.Airguns are a nice way to keep in practice.Spring airguns are the ones I like.RWS,Weihrauch,Webley and Airarms all make very good spring airguns.hope you enjoy your Rws .22.Which RWS model is it?.And to whom did you send it for a tune.

My memory (?) a model 34. Sent to Ken Reeves. I am on vacation at my daughter's in Arizona and Ken will ship it back once I get home. It has iron sights and I tried a Leupold 4X rimfire scope on it. Not sure which way I like the best. Will play with different pellets to see what it likes best. A squirrel that had chewed up the air vent to the barn got picked off at 35 yards. The vents are now aluminum.

I got a Red Rider with a compass in the stock,and I hear tale of it being able to put an eye out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Ken Reeves has been in the airgun tuning business for a long time.Is he the one who uses a slightly different mainspring sometimes?.Forget the exact name,it is not a rounded spring like most.Let us know how you like it and what differences you noticed after the tune.

I have 3 break open spring guns, all .177 I like em. they are loads of fun on milk jugs shotgun shells and all other matter of plinking targets

Yep, it's great to see an airgun forum here. I recently bought my first airgun - a Gamo NRA special. I've been really enjoying it, and will post a review here when I get the time.

RWS Model 34 owner here.... Love the rifle and have it topped off with a 3-9x40mm..... It is deadly on little critters and a blast to pop cans, etc.

What brand of glass? In the olden days I had one of the first R1s it ate a 3X9X40 Leupold. Then the proper airgun scope topic came to light, too late for me. Bill

I got my rifle back from Ken Reeves the other day. The trigger is wonderful. I am able to see the iron sights well enough, but still need to "learn" them and won't put the scope back on the rifle. The groups are good and the rifle better than I am. Very pleased with Ken and his work.

Hi David,glad to hear that you got your air-rifle back from Ken Reeves.Did he change the mainspring and put in a different seal?.Or did he do the trigger, and fine tune the gun,
Air rifles are a lot of fun and many of the good ones are very very accurate.Have to get used to the different recoil movement of the spring guns.

Fine tune, new seal, trigger and I think the mainspring was ok, but I really don't remember. Fine gentleman and 1st class work on the gun.

your original mainspring was fine no sense wasting a good spring. Depending on how much you use the rifle, you might consider one of the premiem springs in the future. They are very costly and usually only the serious competative shooters go for them. If properly set up the factory springs generally work very well for most airguns.

I've had my eye on a couple of airguns at Cabela's Bargain Cave for a while. One is an RWS 54 with scope, the other is an RWS 52 with scope. Price difference is about $100. From what I can see, there isn't any difference externally. They're both .22's, look almost new, and both side levers. Can you expoiund on what the difference might be?

Hi EBD10,As I can recall,the RWS 52 is basically the RWS 48 with fancier stock.The RWS 54(or the RWS Airking as it used to be called somrtimes)has a special mechanism,that is said to make the airgun almost recoilless.And it was always more expensive than any of the RWS spring piston airguns.I have not shot one so can't comment on how good the non recoil feature works.I have shot the 48 and it is a very nice airgun.I have not shot the fancier RWS 52.
