Just ordered a combo kit.
What should I expect from this gun ? Reviews says great accuracy, and power.

Hold on loosely, but don't let go. Springers like a light touch, from my experience.

Vortex I believe is a gas-ram. So no double recoil like a conventional springer. A little smoother shooting experience.

Hatsan is one of the few manufacturers that don't exagerate velocity claims by rating them with alloy pellets. At least that's the way it used to be.

.22 caliber will have a good ampunt of drop at 50 or 60 yarda. I like their thump, but a .177 in the same platform shoots way flatter.

50 yards would be shooting long range !
This thing is no toy ! I'm shooting steel plates, and it makes quite the smack sound.
I'm waiting to see the squirrel that ripped the under hood liner in my Hummer H2, built a nest, and chewed wires.
Any baiting suggestions ?

Get a cheap bird feeder. Then when you shoot the squirrel feeding at it, the squirrel will be well fed and ready for the skillet. It will be satisfying eating the bane of your existence. Tasty too.

The birds are pretty as well.

The squirrels here aren't your typical tree rats.
They usually live in burrows, and eat roots of trees, and shrubs.
Noone I know eats them.

A lot of people advocate the "artillery hold" for springers, but I've had fine results with a normally firm hold that you would use on a low-recoiling rifle. The worst thing about the typical break barrel is the separation of barrel from scope, which isn't a problem if you shoot irons (both sights on barrel). I have a $100 gamo that was horrible with a scope, obviously because the barrel would never exactly line up upon reloading. Shooting with irons in that gun simply hammers the red squirrels as a springer (actually nitro piston) pushing a 22 around 900fps. An accurate 177 going even 500-600fps will do the job when close enough, i.e. <20 yds, although I've killed pests at 50yds with a 600fps pumper and a lucky shot. Step up to PCP and destroy all pests within 50 yards, and some at 100!

As long as you hold them the same way every time springers will be as accurate as you are, where you get in trouble is using a tight hold one time then loose the next or not placing your hand in the same place on forearm every time you shoot..when shooting off a rest put your hand between gun and rest, dont lay forearm on a hard service and shoot.
Gas piston guns are usually a bit harder to cock then a equal power springer.
