.45 Special? Do you mean 45 Schofield? The Schofield is a bit shorter than the 45 Colt just as the 44 Spec. is a bit shorter than the 44 Magnum.

I would bet that the thick rim precludes chambering in the SAA.
No Auto Rim brass has a much thicker rim. Shorten your Long Colts, or get Schofield brass from Starline.
I'm pretty sure you are talking about the 45 Cowboy brass that was designed by Adarondike Jack for shooting in SASS. Your rifle will not fire it unless it has been modified. Not all models of rifles can even be modified to work. The 73 will if the brass carrier is changed out. If you have a 1892 then you can down load some 45 Schofield brass that will work with out much problems.
