It's near, have plans?

The tiny village of Wabigoon used to put on a big fireworks display.

I'll be missing the holiday this year, have a big time for me!

About 15 years ago I started a tradition at work of Friday afternoon bbq’s before every long weekend of the summer. I always cook (only guy in an office of 20 women). Menu varies, sometimes burgers and dogs, sometimes sausage, sometimes kabobs, always tater chips cuz the women demand them. Lol

This year we haven’t had one yet because Covid. I decided to do one Tuesday for Canada Day. With all the social distancing and no groups more than 10 it’s turned into a chitshow. But it’ll be good to see some of the ladies that I haven’t seen in more than 3 months, except by video.

We won’t go anywhere on Canada Day but I’m picking up SD21 at her university house and she’ll come home for Slavyanka’s birthday (July 4). We’ll hit the beach on July 2 when it’s hopefully not so busy.

I was in the Maritimes in 2017, they really step it up a few notches compared to BC.

I now live on the flat prairies, so we can see fireworks from towns 10 miles away right from our own back yard. smile

P.S. Wabigoon,

Nice job on the lawn. Do you sing O, Canada when you hoist the Maple Leaf?

Keith, I'll not desiccate the Flag by trying to sing! laugh

Our good friend Steve does all the mowing. Judy likes the potted flowers, I don't think we will have those this year.

Have two super days -- one on the first, and another on the fourth.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 06/27/20
I'll try Keith.

Important day to me.
I really don't know what will happen in the future, I am an ardent Westerner , my family fought and died for Canada. I will honor them on Canada day.
This nation cannot be measured by the foolishness in Ottawa.

My feelings exactly.

Why an otherwise wonderful people want to celebrate becoming friends with Quebec is beyond me. But, it's your parade.

You can point your finger all you want, but all nations have divisions.

In the US, I see the north vs the south, east vs west, whites vs blacks, Dems vs Republicans. Shall I go on?

July 1st and July 4th are both rapidly becoming days of mourning for what used to be. GD

wabigoon;
Good afternoon to you sir, I hope that other than not being able to make it up to your summer fishing pilgrimage that this finds you and your fine family well.

Since it's in the middle of the week this year and because all of the local fireworks are suspended, it's most likely that my wife and I will get together with our nearest daughter and her husband and do a small cookout in the yard.

We usually try to head down to a town on the US border - Osoyoos - which spends upwards of $50,000 most years on their fireworks display. They do it out into the lake and some of the fireworks then explode under water which adds a whole different dimension to it for us.

This was to be the 25th anniversary and they'd been planning a really big display, but as I read they're now just saving up for next year and plan to add more.

All the best to you and yours this Canada Day sir and on the Fourth as well of course.

Dwayne

When Justin Trudeau talked about annexing the US, he said that he would move the new holiday to the 2nd or 3rd of July. I was confused about the reason why Justin said he wanted to take in the US. He said something about the number of COVID cases is far lower in Canada. By taking over the US, the number of cases would automatically drop. He also said that Prince Harry and the missus would be living in Canada again, in the province of California. It would make the Queen happy.

That's a LOL, Steve.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
Why not annex Mexico as well?
Posted By: Steve Redgwell Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
No, leave them for the South Americans. We have enough problems, I think.

Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
Steve, you'd get a whole lot of Hispanics just annexing the US. Most of them are hard workers.
Posted By: Steve Redgwell Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
That maybe so, but we can only handle so much at one time.
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
Next time you invalid Steve, please don't burn the Whitehouse again! laugh

Poor spelling is my trademark.
Posted By: 5sdad Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
Speaking of trademarks, do they still make Smith Brothers cough drops with the pictures of the two brothers, and their names, "Trade" and "Mark" beneath them?
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 06/29/20
I think so John. wild cherry was the school boy's choice, cough drop, not candy.

It looks like we will have to make do with waving a Mapleleaf Flag, and a sparkler this Canada day.

If any of you sing our national anthem, please sing the line that says "In all thy SONS command" and not the genderless in all of us command.

Thanks.

That's how I do it. Not changing either.

i remember whenever we went to a movie the anthem came on the screen, all rised, i kinda liked it
Posted By: wabigoon Re: Canada Day? - 07/01/20
At some doings at the old Wabigoon hall, everyone jumped up on their feet when they put up the picture of the queen.
I might have been five years old at that time.
Posted By: Steve Redgwell Re: Canada Day? - 07/01/20
Be thankful that, regardless of the words, you are still singing Oh Canada! You could be singing, Gosudarstvenny Gimn Rossiyskoy Federatsii.

Here is the 2001 anthem proposal. Things move slowly in Ottawa.
