My wife, and I are nearly loaded up for a trip to NW Ontario tomorrow morning. I am hoping on catching some nice fish, of course. It's always nice to meet up with old friends, and make some new friends if that works out.
I hopin' to get together with Paul, of course.
I can almost smell the walleye (they still call them pickerel?) frying! Enjoy your trip!
Thank you! Our dog Lilly is practicing her bark, "Bark, bark, eh."
Make a slight detour in Fort Frances to the McDonald's and try the poutine. It's pretty good. Eating poutine makes you an official Canadian, eh?

We always called them pickerel. Grouse got called partridge. I grew up in S. Ont, but the north was always my favourite part of the province. We have a camp between Hearst and Long Lac.
Thanks men, we had ice cream cones at McDonalds Fort Frances, when I bought the 20 horse Merc a few years back.
Well good folks, we are packed, ready to move in the morning. 630 miles to drive, I'll tell more when we settled in.

Hi Richard, It'll depend how log you're up for ?
Deb, the Kids & I are off to NYC tomorrow & won't be back until Monday morning.
Deb's sister is having a "destination" wedding in Central Park. Looking forward to the family catch up, the City, not so much !
The following Wednesday/Thursday, we will be camping for an "extended" long weekend !
Paul, we pulled in Wabigoon at 645 PM. Of course we had to spend $$$$$ in Dryden on the way through. I'll get in touch when. and how I can. ( Two T-bones in the freezer)
My wife caught this one, she fishes circles around me, she does not like her picture all over the internet.
Okay.......fess up.....did you eat it or throw it back in? Beautiful fish.
Don't blame your wife........I'm not going to post pics of family here either. Too many creeps.
I threw it back, close to being illegal. I need to read the book closer.
This is the infamous Wabigoon Tavern, or what is left of it. In it's day it hosted more fights than The Montreal Forum, and Madison Square Garden combined.
Looks like you are off to a good start Richard. Keep the pictures coming. I'm heading back up there in July, but have already packed. I can't wait for that first shore lunch.
Best Regards,
No fishing today. a picture of the neighbour's over grown lawn. I thought the wild flowers are pretty.
Great pictures Richard !!
Glad you're having a great trip.
Thanks Paul, not so many "Yanks", buy rose bushes for friends. Man, and boy, I've been spending a bit of time here since 1949.
It rained pitchforks, and hammer handles this afternoon. We had friends in for supper, ham, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables.
imgur acted up a bit, just a picture of the table setting, wild flower bouquet.
Wabi, wish you'd quit rubbing it in. Looks really pretty up there. Do you ever hunt, or just fish?
I'd love to hunt some in NW Ontario James. So far, just fishing.
Ha! Very nice. Glad I found these pics you been hiding.
Beautiful area and nice fish. Thanks for sharing.
Just got back from a trip to Ontario. Caught tons of fish. Lake we were on looks just like yours. Beautiful country, after everywhere
Nice jack!
Not fishing weather today.
My wife got the recovering done on the recliner.
Only one keeper today, but a nice one.
Only one keeper today, but a nice one.
nice marble eye
The lake today, whitecaps abound.
Walleye chop - back troll over an 8' wide hump in 25' of water with a 1/64 oz. jig. (At least that's what they always say in the magazine articles.)
John, I'll those young bucks do whatever they want. It may be rougher than the photo appears, it looks more like a bad day on the lake to me, if not a funeral waiting to happen.
PS. wind gusts up to 60km, 36mph.
I was spoofing them - I'd be cozily holed up reading or playing cribbage.

Definitely rougher than the photos indicate !
I'll fish in most weather, but not yesterday.
I know the couple in the foreground of this photo !
A rainy morning here. Packing up for the trip back to Iowa.

Safe travels!
I've always found the folks of northern Ontario very friendly indeed, and your pictures make me want to be there now!
John
Thanks again Richard,
Deb & I had a great night !!!!!
Those T-bones, Mmmmmmmmm.
Happy Independence Day, to our Southern friends/neighbours.
Taking down the flag, and sundown.
I'd love to go up there, a trip to the land of the Nipigon is long overdue...
Specks are biting—I got 5 yesterday. Got guys from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota in camp now and a big Lake Trout derby this weekend. I’m headed south to Missouri tomorrow for a family reunion but I’d really like to just stay home.
Have a good time Karl, I doubt the Yanks catch them all.
After a 660 mile drive back home, lot's of detours, we ordered pizza to pick up on the way by.
That’s a Casey’s Taco Pizza for sure. I’m headed to NW Ontario myself shortly. Going to Alexander’s on the Rowan. Lake trout and Big Muskie is my target.
Good luck, and safe driving RMerta! How many miles is the trip for you?
Hey Richard,
Caught a couple yesterday.
Put back maybe 12 overs, had trouble finding under 18" fish.
Nice Paul! Our son is on the way. He, and Roy should be near Bemidji about now.
Hoping he/they have a great trip !!
Deb & I are off to Alaska again, tomorrow after work !
I'll take lots of photos.
Not just of food !
Great pic.s. are you familiar with Bonnie Bay camp? We had a great time there a few years back.
I believe it operates under another name now. Probably due to a change in ownership. Some of us hunted moose with them at one of their outpost camps back in the 1970's. The owners then came from Lindsay (southern Ontario) which is about 50 miles from where I live.
Question for Wabigoon. Was the mercury in the lake ever cleaned up? Back when we were going up into that area few people wanted to eat the walleye from Wabigoon Lake due to the contamination.
Jim

Yep, still called Bonny Bay, operated by Len & Nancy Davis, who are great people, for the last 15 years or so.
Pretty much always booked from season to season.
Jim, the mercury contamination issue, is in/from the river, which is below the lake & Mill & flows north towards the Grassy Narrows Reserve.
Couple of nice 'eye from the weekend.
Both solid 23" fish, 2 different lakes, 2 vastly different colourations !
This one, from our "usual lake", tannin stained.
This one from a new lake, almost clear water colour.

Len and Nancy owned it when we were up. Your right they are great people. My Buddy shot a 230 pound whitetail on crown land. I believe his pic is still on their web-site.
We are back in Iowa as of 6:15 tonight.
It's still Bonny Bay as far as the sign yesterday.
Beautiful pic.s. The big pike your holding has a mark right by your hand. Is it a bite mark?
