Just wondering.
Myself, it is probably because John Barsness is active- interactive and is quite a treat .
I am political but don't care for the gutter political talk but wish there was a place to converse without it getting out of control .
Anyways as Canadians we need to be active in hunting and shooting activities and willing to pass this interest along. This might be one way of doing it.
What do you think? Take care- God Bless
JB mentioned it a couple of times , probably in Handloader, so I looked and lurked decided to join.
I was a member a few months before John. I don't know why I joined, but I remember having a few exchanges on another board with Ken Howell. That might have been the reason.
It was the only place with low enough standards to accept me. grin
I feel fortunate that John responds to reasonable questions and as a guy raised reading JOC, this is pretty special.
Anyways, Partsman , nothing wrong with friends in low places....my favorite people
Was over on the shotgunworld site, saw a reference to this site, have been here ever since.

Good exchange of info among Loonies. What’s not to like.

DF
What's not to like? The squab. They overcook it here.

There is always more to learn about everything, and here on the 24HCF are folks from all over the place willing to post stories, pictures, results of testing and experiments to share with and enrich the masses. A good number of people are willing to provide help and assistance via posts,PMs,emails and phone calls.

I’ve learned a lot and been very entertained.

Thanks to “all y’all “ who make the ‘fire a good place to be
Because sometimes I LMAO, and other times shake my head in wonder.

There used to be a CAN forum called Huntshoot, don't know if it's still around.

If I wasn’t paid, I’m not sure if I would be here very often, if not at all...

In 2003 or 2004, I called a reference — JimR, a member here — about a hunt. We talked for quite a while and in the course of things he mentioned the ‘Fire. I came, I saw, I joined in 2004.

My son found the site and told me about it; glad he did.
I come here for the riveting political commentary, medical advice, and investing advice.

It's all priceless.

And worth every cent.

I think I tripped over it during an online search for hunting info. Took a look and got hooked.
The place is crawling with attitude, gotta love it.
The only reason I visit the 24CF anymore is to here what Formidilosus has to say. Learn a ton from him, otherwise wouldn’t visit at all. Use to be a great site, however now it’s too much attitude and rhetoric for my taste.

1 reason for me also. Wasn't much info on 378 Weatherby or the bee as he had coined. The guy had lots of good info.
Semi-retired fair weather working lazy POS that likes to read.
Thinking back, I think it was the 270/ RL 26 thread that got me checking in here.
There are some good conversations here, I try to skim by the bad ones. I am a hunter first, Wild Sheep are at the top of my list and I am always looking for supporting info.
I joined the old Shooters to learn to reload, as knew no one that did that. When it folded I migrated here along with a lot of others. I stay because I have met some wonderful friends here. Some on the internet only, and a lot that I have met in person. Another reason is that there are lot of people that know a lot of stuff. You might have to wade through some crap, but you can get help for most any problem. miles

I was another shooters.com refugee.
I bet some of you joined for the intelligent back and forth in most of the posts. Not all of them are high calibre though (no pun intended).
Ha ha! Bump!
Ha ha! Bump!
To keep an eye on Toby!
I am a little of the anti social loner faction although I do somewhat enjoy discussion and debate and I enjoy visitors at my house if they don't stay too long. On the CF I can leave and go to the farm or go fishing and leave a conversation by just dropping out of it and checking back in whenever. There are some very learned folks on here and I learn a lot, and even the egotist morons can teach us some things. What I don't like is the few agitators or devil's advocates that entice otherwise level headed folks to engage them, but the blame for that lies with the members who engage them. I kind of wish posters would educate themselves on the use of words such as there, their, they're, and to, too, two, and shoo in vs shoe in etc. but that's not a real big issue. I used to tell agents I worked with that a lot of folks only know you by what you write in your reports.
It provides an easy way to keep an eye on Canadians.
Trolling for chicks....
I don't think 'belong to' is the right words. I don't belong to anything but myself.

I choose to participate here for the decent mix of information and entertainment.
There is no shortage of entertainment here.

What ever happened to the days when you got a free novelty item ($2 or less) from Dollar General for every 100 posts?

That's how I got my collection of nodding car dogs. They are the ones with the eyes that light up every time you brake.

Bet I read this a thousand times to my son.
Recommended by someone.

Stayed because it gets a lot of traffic and a variety of topics. TOS seems reasonable. Interesting conversation.

Cheap vice....
Have to do something at work....

-Jake
You mean you're not working?
I followed a few from predatormasters over here, got to visiting with Ken Howell, Greg Cameron, and a couple more renegades - and it just expanded from there.
I attended the last Sierra Vista shindig, then "The Warden" went with me to Quemado - several times. She found out she kinda liked this crew, also!
I formerly posted on Accurate Reloading. Lots of good gun talk and the political forum was always hot.....but Don is a true died in the wool liberal and for some reason all the big posters were gone....vanished.....I managed to survive but found that many of the peple that posted on AR came here.....so I did too. The political environment is far better here.

As to AR....it's now merely a shell of what tt formerly was.

It did take a while to get used to the CF but Now I like it......lots of my kind of folks.
Partsman X2. I've got friends in low places. And this is a better place to go. I drift away sometimes to different pastures and then come back. YMMV Be Well. Rusty

I am here because of the wide knowledge base and the willingness of many to share and contribute. I enjoy the sense of humor shown by most and also enjoy poking those that lack one. J.B. and others have taught me a lot and easily offset the malinformed and the whiners.

Shortmag.org was closing and they suggested the fire.
I ask myself this question more and more. GD
I found the 24 over 16 years ago. At that time I learned so much from people helping people. The help seems to have turned into a lot of personal attacks now. I don't read the back and forth arguments any more. I mainly read the classifieds but occasionally post on something that interests me. I would like to see Rick set up a system for eliminating those who just want to cause trouble.

to get my daily reminder of how many azzholes there are in the world.
So why isn't it moderated on this site?

You only get to watch the ones that care about such things as found here. The rest are left wing city dwelling snow flakes in an ever increasing socialist pit.
I came here to learn stuff and do. I like the conservative slant here as well.

Yeah, a guy had better not cross the line set by some of the bullies. It is too bad, many others back off, preferring not to fight.
It is a shame . We wouldn't put up with the nonsense in our everyday lives .
The puffed up little bastards would tuck tail and run, imo. We need your stories Shrapnel, to balance the scales. Cheers

There are plenty of Hunting and Shooting forums that are moderated.Just put the rude crude ones on ignore. If you want PC ,go to Gaybeards.I found this place by accident.Lots of interesting threads kept me coming back.A good place to trade, buy and sell stuff.Huntz

I like the contributors, well most of them.

The Fire is not too unlike eating chicken wings. You eat the meat, spit out the bones.

It's not that hard figuring which is which...

And, I do learn a lot. That info has cost me serious money over the years, but what the heck...

Ya can't take it with you.

DF
Stumbled over it years ago. Probably the best shooting and reloading site on the net. JB is a definite plus. The Campfire forum has become something of a cesspool of conspiracy theorists and crackpots.

This place has cost me a small fortune to the point I have to keep working a few more years. 😎
My low self-esteem requires frequent abuse to maintain to my high standards. The fire is perfect for me.
Northern_Dave told me about it one time we were together shortly after he started his Birth of a Deer Camp thread. Been here ever since. I have laughed so many times over the years and spent a lot of money on the things you yahoo's convince me I need. lol

Surveillance of certain "characters" on this site for what we term..."investigations".

I myself keep coming back as there is nowhere else I have found that exposes me to so many different ways of thinking, quite a lot I do not agree with but all are thought provoking.

Maybe not yours though.
Campfire has a depth that is currently unique, particularly compared to the consistently feather weight facebook. Some remarkable knowledge, given relatively freely. Almost always some worthwhile reading.
I agree with the comments on J Barsness, and there are others that are reliably informative and/or interesting.
Then there is that short list of characters that occasionally bring out the 14 year old in me.
Rick has hit a pretty good balance.
Obviously I am on 24 CF because I hunt and shoot. I wouldn't be here if I didn't, I will jump in on issues that surround these things.
I have learned not to take the bait of the troublemakers, many that don't appear to do either hunt or shoot.
J.B. is gold and others have lots of good information, first hand info not copied off the internet. Personally, I live and breath to climb a mountain, glass for Bighorns and make my gear suitable to do this. Shooting is chiefly about hunting and I do alot of both.
Hunting is strenuous and physical conditioning is key to this so I like fitness posts .
I have to say most city folks leave me completely baffled, North, south, east or west.
I guess I am just a hayseed.

Like the term "redneck", I would consider that as a compliment.
Same with "yankee", particularly when one of my Texan friends lets it slip.
Still a great place for info, and exchange of ideas. All the other stuff, i just ignore.
