Thinking about going with a dedicated decapping die and was wondering which one to purchase. Anyone care to share their experience with them? Which one, Lee, RCBS, Lyman are best bang for the buck?

I have a dedicated decapping die in a dedicated decapping press. both rcbs....

I use the Lee die. No complaints.

I use the Lee as well in a press set up just for decapping.

No problems at all.

Never had a problem with a Lee product in about 40 years of off and on reloading.

My brother uses a dedicated RCBS press and die for decapping - he has had no problems with their products.

I use a Lee de-capping die and am well pleased with it. I de-cap all of my brass before cleaning (wet tumble).

I use the Lee decaping die in a Forster Coax.

I'll jump on the bandwagon. Lee and worth it to get a Partner or other inexpensive press as a dedicated unit. Keeps grit and spent primers out of the primary press. If your getting an additional press look for something with a primer catcher or that you can hang a coffee can on.

I use the Lee decapping die in Lee's cheap single stage C press.

Thanks for the input....sounds like the Lee is pretty popular so I decided to give it a go....and found it on sale to boot!

Lee die and $16 lee c press. I have more in the mount and 3D printed primer collector doohickey, than the die/press.
I like to keep the carbon off the other presses and the primer collection keeps more off the floor.

I bought the Lee C press as part of the Lee Reloader Pack which included the C press and Lee Modern Reloading Manual, 2nd Ed for $17.38. Pretty good deal I thought.

I have an RCBS and seems like I break the pin about once a year. RCBS is happy to replace them but it’s a pain and I even follow the directions. Odd

It does a good job of catching the spent primers.

Same thing and two remedies have helped. Primer flash hole uniforming and mounting the stem with an "O" ring so it floats. The uniforming creates a bevel that guides the pin into the hole. Floating allows for minor differences in cases.

I have not broken one since I started doing this where previously I broke three in short order.

Just saw a good recommendation on another thread for the squirrel man de-capping pin for the Lee a stouter unit with a more balled point. Worth it for a back up.

It was in the 222 wildcat die thread. Squirrel Man outfitters??? or something like that.

I also bought a Lee decapping die and it’s been great. I had to reduce the diameter of the pin though to do some Lapua brass though.

+1 on the decapping die in a dedicated press, I decap before tumbling so the primer pockets get cleaned.

I have the Redding, works like a charm.

I use a Lee .45-70 die with .223 decapping pin. Only caliber that I own that I cant decap with it is 300 RUM.

Lyman. Simple, cheap, all steel. I have a Lee, prefer the Lyman.

Dittos on a dedicated simple press for decapping. Keeps the grit out of your main press.

Does the Lee have replaceable pins or is the pin part of the stud. My .223, it is all one piece? It's the pits if it breaks or bends.Not much use trying to deprime crimped primers. I have an RCBS depriming die and keep a half dozen pins instock

I don't follow you there. I've deprimed lots of crimped in primers with my Lee decapper.

The Lee universal decapping die has a one piece decapping pin. They are $3 each from Lee.

Most have no problem but a few will test your resolve

I think RCBS replaceable pins are but a few cents each. Been awhile since I purchased them,but I know they rare dirt ceap.RCBS has even sent me them free

Just me- I've knocked out I don't know how
many primers with the Lee die including
many many crimped in primers with no
difficulty or problems of any kind.
None of the crimped primers required any
extra special effort or lip biting. The difficulty
was preparing the pocket to receive a new
primer, but I handled that with ease with an
RCBS swager. I haven't had to do that at all
in quite some time after I quit using any
military brass and went to all commercial.
If we ever get out from under the current mess,
I imagine I'll get more brass so I won't be
short like many are these days

I once bought small primer hole brass - but only had to sand down my decap pins and was back in business.

I no longer deprime on the press after getting my Franklin Arsenal handheld deprimer. Easy, simple, fast, and no more debris/crap and escapee primers at my press.

These FW Arms self-centering decappers are currently out of stock but I am going to order when available. Getting the self-centering Swage as well

On a related note, have any of you guys any experience with the 3D printed primer catchers for sale on eBay?

looks interesting ever had any issues with crimped brass?

I have both of these dies from RCBS I will have to try it not sure about my 300wsm diameter.
