When I was 9 or 10 my mom acquired an American water spaniel. I thought he was great. He hunted and fished with me. He even participated in my retched attempt to restore a motorcycle I knew nothing about.

My most recent pair of dogs have passed away. A weimaraner and German shepherd. Probably the two best dogs I will have ever had in my house. I really want a new dog. I can't replace what I lost, so I remembered that American water spaniel. The one we had was 44 years ago.

Do any of you have any solid information about them?
I live in SW MO so as far as I know the bird hunting is pay to play. Basically kick a fledgling out of a shoe box in a field.

Looked into getting one about 30 years ago as it checked a lot of the boxes at the time. Size, temperament and my hunting style were very appealing to me. Unfortunately I couldn’t find one or a Boykin close to me at the time. Fast forward to a couple of years ago and got an English Cocker from a breeder near me. Love the little spaniels of all types and could see someday getting an AWS or Boykin. I see a litter available right now on www.gundogcentral.com. Good luck, Dave
I bought a Boykin pup from Pam Kadlic many years ago. When we arrived to to pick up our pup, Pam was working an American Water Spaniel on retrieving drills. I was very impressed with what a saw in that dog. Pam would likely know of the better AWS breeders in the country. She may even be breeding them herself. Look her up. She is in the Aiken S.C. area.
