Took the new 12 week Pup for a walk and came across what looked like a fresh Grouse track....Took him too it, and put his nose on top of it...He started excitedly digging into the ground.Thought, that's different....So took him away for awhile and then back to another part of the track....same thing???? Didn't do it other than on the track..

Had a few young Pups, but this is a first....

I’ve never seen a pup react to bird scent like that. That said...I would consider nearly any reaction to the scent as a positive. I wonder if the digging was his attempt to get more of the sent into the air. You may have yourself an aggressive hunter there!

Battue, I had an English Setter pup 'dig' into a dresser drawer with a pheasant tail in it once, many years ago. Guess the instinct is pretty strong, as she was never destructive otherwise.
