My nine year old female lab, Belle, was just diagnosed with senile cataract in her right eye. Have had thoughts there was something amiss. Vet said it is in the gelatinous part of her eye. Said to be non operable. Left eye is good....so far. She has been the best upland hunting lab I have ever had. She points, retrieves, honors and is a great family pet. Hate to see her go down this road. MTG
Prayers sent... make her happy and comfortable - just like she would do for you.

The vet suggested it was time to start another lab pup so the pup could learn from my Belle. Almost feels like cheating on her but she, Belle, was a pup that learned from my lab/shorthair cross. Wife won’t be happy about this but guess a few months in the guest room will have to be spent.
We have had so many good hunting dogs and the memories are wonderful. The new pup may be my last upland dog. It will be a small to runt female lab pup. Not going to breed her as we have done the puppy thing. Looking forward to spring and who knows. A new pup may be in the future. MTG

Good Luck with the new pup, and when it comes Belle's time to retire, she can sit on your lap while you type 24 hour campfire posts and go on short walks while you hold a shotgun...to relive the good old days. That's what I do with the most awesome hunting dog and canine companion that I've had in my avatar.

Ask your vet to write a script for glutathione eye drops to a compounding pharmacy. Use daily
