My dog was fetching a rooster after one of my typical poor shots and an especially long glide to the ground. I was proud of him retrieving and had plenty of time so I got out my camera.

Darned if he didn't run right over another rooster when he got back near me.
Tough to shoot that one when I'm holding a camera instead of my gun.

To add insult to injury the other rooster showed up in the picture.

What kind of dog is that? Not the image I have of the classic upland dog...

Looks like a blue heeler - a cattle dog doing double duty.

That is a heeler and he has shown an interest/desire for pheasant hunting.

I have another one, a female, that is more a waterfowl/water dog type.

Thanks, Alamosa.

I have never heard of a blue heeler being a hunting dog, but both of the ones I met were very smart so I should not be surprised.

You learn something new every day!

Hey guys I have a red heeler that hunts Chukar, Quail Grouse or anything else.

BTW the correct name for this breed is Australian Cattle Dog. They come in two colors blue and red.

When hunting with my friends that have English Setters and a cripple is down they all say, "Let Reba go get it" however Reba is usually already on the way. No cripples get away from Reba!

BTW she always brings the birds to me without regard to who shot it:-)=

That is really a wonderful picture!

Are those wild birds? If so, it's a doubly amazing picture!

That is a really cool pic.Love to see a dog do something out of their realm.I love ACDs, and though they can be a little bull-headed, there is not much they can't learn. My "other job" is dog training, and the herding breeds like this are the "go to" dogs IMO when something out of the ordinary needs done. Really cool Bird Dog, Thanx for the pic!
