I am planning on building a single dog kennel in my back yard including cement pad, wire fencing, etc. Not sure about breed yet but considering a Vizla (figure short hair). Winters will be cold with snow. Will I need electricity (heat) if house is double-walled and insulated. Does dog need something other than cement for his feet, etc? Any and all suggestions will be welcomed. Don't want to make any big mistakes.
Thanks.

GoodNews, Contact The Mason Company (1-800-543-5567) out of Leesburg, Ohio. They make very fine kennels and associated products that will make the lives of you and your dog much more pleasent. They will happily send you an excellent brochure about their fencing, etc.. I cannot overstate how pleased I have been with the modular kennel panels that they delivered to me and which, with the help of a friend, bolted together in place on the slab that I had previously poured. Elegantly simple and bombproof.
As for the slab, make sure it has some fall to it so that it drains well.
I'm from the sunny South so I can't help you on cold considerations other than to let your pooch inside when the temps take a dive.
Besides the kennel panels, I also bought a Shade-A-Pup and a Rest Bench from Mason. Both have greatly contributed to the health and well being of my Lab.
Everyone must pick their own breed. That being said, have you considered a German Shorthair? There are so many great dogs of that breed available in your neck of the woods that your chances of finding an excellent pup from a reputable breeder seem much better than with a Visla.
Whatever you decide, call Mason. They have experienced "sales engineers" waiting to talk to you about your kennel. Cheers, RS
Ripsnort--

Thanks for your help.
