Beautiful setters Don. What breeder did you get them from?
They are Tekoa Mt/Smith breeding. Got them from a guy in Bend.

Thanks. They were brought back from Germany. French/German lines mostly.
If I had the chance, I wouldn't hesitate going over and getting another. Hard to explain, but the breed seems a bit different there.
Did someone ask for pictures of setters?

Seattle------Great looking setters. I love those last 4 photos.

Splatter------We've got blues up in the San Juans outside Durango & Pagosa.
Seattle, that Black headed dog has some kind of tail!!! Looks like God is pulling on it... straight like an arrow and nearly vertical!

I don't own a Setter but every time I see Don's pics I want one! Those dogs and pics truly are works of art IMO......well done!! smile

I have to agree with this.

However, I will say that when it comes to gun dogs and beauty, nothing challenges the supremacy of the English Setter.

Thank you. I love photographing pointing dog's. I was at the Wirehair of Central Oregon Club trial this past weekend and got a shot I might never get again. Dan Hoke, Wash pro, had a dog on point in the call back. Very nice shorthair. First frame was the dog alone pointing. second was Dan flushing and the bird clears the sage and is in the photo too. The last frame, the gunner shoot's the bird, you can see it's legs drop, and Dan and his dog are in that same frame. This past spring I got two Britt's about 30yds off the break away. One was coming right at me. Just as I shot, the other dog came in from my left and both were air borne. I shot the photo and fell back and both dog's went over the sage and landed right next to me.

thank you again.

God are those ugly dog's ugly! No need to thank me. lol Who ever got that ugly dog thing started anyway? Funny but guy's that have them seem to take pride in the term ugly dog. Of course if I had one, so would I!

Not setters, but everytime I see setter pics I wonder if I should become a traitor to my breed-

Pics from Kansas opener last year-

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

Look closely, 3 shorthairs on point or honoring each other, nice covey of quail got up, took 2 of them out of this covey and 2 out of another large covey earlier in the day-

Brother in law helping his dog Cain over the fence, he's been hit by the electric fence on the farm one too many times, refuses to cross any fence at all. As you can tell, nobody cut my brother in law any slack for this-

Another of several points for the day-

Styling and profiling. Emilee's Rawhide Jake, a.k.a the Jackal.

[Linked Image]
Nothing wrong with a little pointer porn. Nothing can compare to a dog on point.
[Linked Image]
This is Jake he was my baby, I lost him in a divorce. I still miss him.

[Linked Image]

And after a hard day of hunting there is nothing like kicking back and relaxing in camp.

I could take losing the Mrs.---- but never my bird dog.

You must have been married to my ex-wife! My Hannah lived 16yrs and I wasn't ready to let her go. I still can't let her go. She's burried by the greenhouse and that's where my ashes will be.

Don't know what to say. There are some dang fine bird dogs here. Gus was a dandy settler, sorry Bruce you had to put him down. Gertie is all class. Montana---that's a good looking pointer & that pup has the look of promise. The poodle was just amazing----from beavers to pheasants. Those German short hairs are dang good looking too.

Blaze's first real hunt. 1.5 yr old French Brittany. Found 2 pheasants for me today. Unfortunately I missed the first, and the second flushed into the brush and trees... Tomorrow I should have some pheasant pics to go along with these...

He had a 10# fatty tumor removed. The vet said if it didn't bother him when he walked then don't worry about. It got too big.
Had to go back thru this whole thread again to see if I put this Gordon and Wirehair in here.

Gordon is owned by Janet Grunbok of Bainbridge Island, Wash.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

And the Wirehair owned by Mr and Mrs Joe Proulx of Bend, Ore. This was taken the weekend after Jake won his AKC Fld Ch.

Pointers are fine, but I prefer to hunt over a Springer Spaniel flushing dog rather than a pointer. I like the closer working of the flushing dog, it seems like more of an equal partnership to me than following a far-ranging pointer.

Here's a couple of Springer pics I happen to have handy:

[Linked Image]
This is Pipe, my dog's sire, AFC and all that, out of Lighthouse Kennels in Wisconsin.

[Linked Image]
This is Riley, my current and fourth Springer. He's not the biggest dog I've had, nor the smartest, nor the fastest, but overall he's the best Springer I've ever hunted over.
Louie the GSP and Tramp the Griffon, great dogs, both of them!

Battue,

Is that a Boykin in your top pics? If so, where's he from. I'm considering buying one...
Posted By: battue Re: we need some gun dog photos - 11/26/12
No, Toby is an English Cocker. So was the other black Dog.

Boykins are cool, but choose your litter carefully for a strong hunting background.

The first and third pix were from one of our annual rimfire only spring time, gofer safari/fly fishing/camping trips up above the Salmon on the Red River.
The dogs enjoy sunbathing and playing after a long winter, and I get in a little fishing, gofer shooting, reading, and napping. I especially like the napping part.

Here's a couple more pix of my camp.

Fish in the Red about 20yrds from camp.
[Linked Image]

Plenty of wildlife viewing.
[Linked Image]

There's even a built in Gofer shooting bench. What's not to like?
[Linked Image]

Not setters but they are pointing.

Here are a couple pictures of two most precious things. My three year old daughter and my shorthair Jaegar.

Jaegar with his first grouse and woodcock at 5 months.

This is him @ 4 months pointing grasshoppers.

[Linked Image]
Not a Setter, Setters that hunt where Lucy goes come back with bloody tail nubs.
