Pardon my ignorance but what is a Maral?? Cheers NC
I think it is a stag.

Google to the rescue!
Looks to be a subspecies of Red Deer.

Quote
The Caspian red deer (Cervus elaphus maral), is one of the easternmost subspecies of red deer that is native to areas between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea such as Crimea, Asia Minor, the Caucasus Mountains region bordering Europe and Asia, and along the Caspian Sea region in Iran.[1] The Caspian red deer is sometimes referred to as maral, noble deer, or eastern red deer

Asian species of Rocky Mountain elk.

An incredible critter.

Blessings,

Steve
Thanks people my "Education " has been broadened. Cheers NC
Yes,It has also been classified as Cervus elaphus sibirica, and is also known as the Altai maral, central maral deer, Siberian red deer and Maral.
The largest of the Red Stag species and can have horns like an Elk or a Red stag usually with the crown points in a cluster. They inhabit some of the most beautiful country anywhere. A horseback hunt during the rut would be unforgettable and reminiscent of the way Elk hunting used to be back in the days when Elmer Kieth was a young buck.

Via airplane.

Sister state/country to MT. Would give my left nut for this hunt if anybody'd buy it.
I bowhunted maral about 20 years ago, but I was in Altai region of Russia. My buddy shot one. I never got close enough for a shot with bow. Incredible animal.

I assume you fly into Alma Ata?
Fly into Almaty from several places-Istanbul, London, Frankfurt, etc... google is your friend.

I still kick myself in the azz for not hunting the maral when I lived in Atyrau. I came close but the family wanted me home on my off hitch, not chasing critters...

Hi, You can travel from USA to Moscow or Istanbul and then to Kazakhstan.
In Russia also you can hunt Maral. The prices are cheaper but the trophies are smaller.

Had a project there years ago, flights were Anchorage, Seattle, Copenhagen, Budapest and finally Atyrau. I'd imagine the hunting would be flying into Almaty
