You could probably get into an original for about the same money. But the restocking, bolt and sights on this one look nicely done. I'd say it is worth the starting price.

Maybe I’m missing something, but it looks like only the checkering on the bolt is not original.

The bolt checkering and if in fact it has a 24” barrel as stated are a couple standouts to me.

Bolt is obvious, thinking 24" is a mistake on the part of the seller.

Is it rust blued ?

Its funny, no one notices that stock is not original to that rifle... Except for grousechaser (had to re-read the posts). Its pretty obvious too. Pocono is usually more on top of the game than this..

That looks like a 1956 Super Grade to me. The only alteration I see is the checkered bolt. A little nicer wood than most but you could pay extra to get better wood. Point out what you think is so obviously wrong for the rest of us. I don't see it.

That stock is off a standard rifle with the barrel boss... Look close, you will see where it was inletted for the rear sight boss.. You are one of the ones that is never skeptical about these pre 64's, but I look at 100's of them over the course of a year. Things like that scream to me unoriginal and maybe even pieced together. That was common for supergrades, since they bring more money. This one may just have a different stock/unoriginal stock (very obvious) and a checkered bolt handle knob, or it may be totally pieced together. Guys like you always assume something is all original and then get bit in the big ol arse when you get it, then possible try to pass it off to someone else.. Its a nice rifle for sure, but how original is it?

I honestly just saw that myself. Thanks for pointing that out. You have to wonder what happened to the original stock as the rest of that thing looks right. I'll tell you that is on my watch list.

I am looking for another 375. Even the one's that look OK, when you talk to the seller they didn't put that they were glas bedded or what the length of pull is on it. Heck half of them aren't near the shop and can't answer any questions. I got a pretty nice one but you never know, might find a better one. I have a 1959 but it has all old features except the ramp is soldered (factory) it has the broach cut rectangular sear hole, flat sided bolt sleeve, all the good stuff. About 100 rifles later is when they made the changes. It does have the roll over sight as that changed pretty early in the 1950's with a heck of an overlap with the Lyman 6W on the base. I am looking for a 1952 or 1953 hopefully with a Monte Carlo. I want an integral front sight ramp and have it marked 375 H&H Magnum not 375 Magnum.

There is four (now three because of this one!) that I am interested in and can't get an answer until the end of month on two of them, one supposedly tomorrow. That guy was at a gun show all weekend with the 375 back home. Heck we haven't had a gun show here in over a year! For the record I am made in 1956 as well. The vision (and other things) aren't what they used to be. I studied and studied that thing.

So is the checkering pattern and grip cap correct for a SG stock to your eyes?? The few SG's I've had had the composite grip cap. The MC stock looks correct, except where the barrel boss might have been inletted?

I am wondering if it could be a stock off a 300 H&H SG which did have the barrel boss, perhaps someone reworked the barrel channel for the .375 profile.
Or maybe it is an original stock and Winchester messed up the barrel inletting but let it go.

They switched to steel grip caps in the mid 1950's. The checkering looks right. It wouldn't have to be an H&H stock; any standard weight Super Grade stock will work, you only need to open the front of the magazine well about 3/16" on the inside, not visible from the outside. I "Highly" doubt Winchester let that slip through, after all it is a Super Grade.
