Has anyone ever tried to take a 1950's pre-64 standard 70 barreled action and stock it with a post- 64 win.super grade stock?
Just have to inlett the barrel knot?
How did it turn out?

Never tried it, but if it’s even possible would bet heavily that there’s much more involved than that.
action not the same. action scews not same distance center to center seem like. i'm probably wrong, but if it was an easy swap a lot of people would be doing it I would think.

You are correct. It is much easier to modify a synthetic stock because you can relieve it and add epoxy, then re-paint. Wood stock is going to be harder to modify.
It can be done. You can make it fit, but it will not be perfect. I have done it in the past. The rear triggerguard screw is about half a screw diameter off. The post 64 triggerguard is also wider. I did it with a pre 64 guard because that is what I had. I think it would be easier with a post 64 triggerguard. I am only talking triggerguards, not the entire bottom metal. I had to glas in voids using pre 64 stuff. Post 64 may fit better as far as bottom metal across the board. There was only aluminum or pot metal post 64 bottom metal when I did it. Lots of better stuff is available now.
Action screw spacing: New Model 70 long action= 7.575 inches, new short Model 70 action= 7.035 inches, and pre-64 Model 70= 7.450 inches.
