Are pre 64 Model 70's running in your neck of the woods? Specifically an original .264 standard in 92-97%? I saw one in my local Cabelas the other day that was a REBUILD. S/N put it in 1953 (no 264's made then) with a refinished stock and a different barrel. $1999 was the sticker.

I saw the following in one local shop, in the last month:

1961 Featherweight, 30-06 w/ 4x Redfield: $699
Late pre-64 Featherweight, 264 WM w/ 3-9 Leupold: $799
1950s standard rifle w/ monte carlo comb stock and period correct scope, 300 H&H, $899

All three were in good, hunted, condition, all original (save for the scopes) without funky recoil pads or cutouts and extra holes for wonder-sights of the 50s. Bluing was complete, but faded, on all three as well. Just old rifles used and cared for.

Shop around and you can find prices you can live with. BTW, I bought the '61 Featherweight.

Those three would be decent, or better, prices up here and you boys south of the border typically pay a bit more for pre 64s. I'd have looked really hard at the 06 or H&H myself, the 264 fwt would have been for a build.

The rebuild is not worth anywhere near that money....the action is a 30/06-length with bolt face opened to magnum.There were no standard length magnum actions from the factory at that point(unless the 458 ws around;cant remember the date the 458 was introduced)and I doubt anyone tore up a 458 Super Grade to rebarrel to 264.

Possible of course but unlikely....

IMO, it's worth the price of the action, with a small bump for both stock and barrel (can't shoot an action alone), hence about $750. A refinish pretty much kills the collector value.

I thought the price was crazy high. But I'm looking for an all original rifle. Would that price be fair for an all original .264 rifle? The prices I've seen on Guns international and Guns America seem a little steep for 92-95% rifles. Any thoughts there?
