I have a Pre war, pre-64 Model 70 standard in 30-06. I measure the aperture sight mount holes on the left side of the reciever as being 9/16" apart. I am looking at a Redfield Model 70 Aperture sight that the seller claims has 5/8" mounting hole spacing.

What is the spacing distance on my 1940 built Model 70?
Now I thought of another question - do the pre-war 70's use the same stripper clip as the 1903 Springfield?
Well the stripper clip question I was able to answer, they wisely use 1903 clips - and Numrich actually carries them on E-bay - that was a surprise.
The original Winchester blueprint for the receiver show's a .604" C-C dimension for the receiver sight. I have an idea the seller is probably measuring with a ruler or someting similar. Holes are actually right in between what you and your seller are measuring.
Hope this helps...

I've used Swedish Mauser stripper clips in a 1903. They should work in the Model 70, be easier to find, and cheaper besides.
Thanks seewin - I found out 1903 stripper clips will work, they are chep and easy to find too.
Glad I was able to help...anytime.
