By no means am I running this guys fantastic 'Bob' down but does this barrel look to polished and blue?

Yes,it does look "polished & blued."

I would walk to Atlanta GA from SW GA barefooted for that pair! The SG 06 govt looks unfinished BUT there is a dog gone big difference between a photo and holding those bad boys in the sunlight! very best WinPoor

That old M70's barrel does not look like an original M70 blue finish at all. I can see the buffed out letters, the 'blue' is too bright without the traditional M70 metal finish.

Perhaps it's 'worth' $3000 to someone because of the chambering? To me the price is way too high.

I'm thinking a lot of these guys on GB don't know what they are looking at. I've had REAL "NIB" pre 64's in my hands and the bluing didn't look like that. IMHO, $3,000.00 is way over priced.

Refinished all the way, wood & metal, incorrect polishing it is a dead giveaway. Move on and keep looking, there are original rifles out there that are reasonably priced.

Hard to be sure from just a picture but it appears buffed out and re-blued to me. $3000 for a standard 257 seems a bit high to me. The pictures of his 06 SG also look like the barrel is to polished, so maybe it's just his camera and flash?

Winchesterpoor: I personally would not even consider buying either of those Rifles - except at "parts only" prices!
The barrel on the 257 has been removed, reblued and replaced with a POOR job of proof stamping.
Dittoes on the stamping of the Super Grade 30/06.
These "computer sales" brings to my mind the several times I have been approached to "bid up" questionable sales via internet sites.
I have bought many items (including some guns) via the internet but would NEVER even consider purchasing a collector type Winchester through that venue - just to much money at risk via a remote seller!
I have and I have bought MORE than my share of collector Winchesters the need to risk my hard earned monies with this type high risk sale is just not there.
In my opinion both of these Rifles deserve a pass for many reasons.

I never considered the Bob, the Super Grade was not quite as iffy. When I find one I really like I talk with seller, then want at least a 3 day look see on anything over a grand.Nothing like a walk in the sunshine ! very best WinPoor

Yes, I smell the blueing salts from here. There are going to be a couple of unhappy buyers.

Maybe,they may not have a clue that the rifle's have been re-blued.

For the Bob - photo 22 should show some numbers etched in the bolt on that side but there are none. I realize there is some glare present. Photo 34 shows what appears to be a re-strike on the proof mark. The oval is in two pieces and there appears to be a lighter blued color surrounding it. Look at the solid proof mark on the action to the right.
Furthermore, the "mint condition" of the barrel doesn't match the few handling marks on the stock.

For the '06 SG - photo 11 shows what could be pitting marks on the bolt handle covered up.
Photo 48 also has what looks like a re-strike on the proof mark. Notice how the ovals do not connect and are in two spheres. There also appears to be a blued color shift around the perimeter of the proof mark.

Other than that, they don't look too bad.

The crown on the Bob (pic 35) is really blue.

That's a tough one buddy. However, my first thought was yes it has also been re-blued..

Not original, but well preserved.

The barrel has been refinished and the stock's checkering sanded heavily.
