Picked up a 1949 Model 70 Target 270 last weekend at a local gun show here in Michigan. Was wondering if there was anything special about these rifles in regards to how they were put together and if/how they were bedded. Were they basically made the same way as the standard rifle? Any unique info on them from more knowledgeable forum members would be appreciated.

winchesterpoor is your huckleberry in regards to the target guns. I'd love to see pics of the rifle though.

I think that vintage "Target Rifles had an extra "slick" trigger most often marked (stamped) with a "T".
I am not aware of any special bedding additives or devices but the few Model 70 "Targets" I have shot did, indeed, shoot well.
I hope someone can answer your questions better than I - and again great find.

I think they are cool, but around here they are way out of my price range and rare as hens teeth. I don't think I'll ever fall into a good deal on one, but you never know. I can only imagine how well they shoot. Probably boringly accurate I'm sure

I never saw a target rifle chambered for the 270.

We all shot 30-06's then. Everything was 30-06.

I'll bet that 270 is a good shooting sob though. My smith has collected pre 64's since the early 60's and he says the 270's have always shot better for him than almost any other cartridge for some reason????? My 270 fwt is a damn tack driver. It impresses the heck out of me every time I take it out and this is coming from a long time 30-06 user ...

Jim Carmichael had a 270 Target in his collection.

And I have yet to find a .270 that didn't shoot outstanding.

Nice rifle....only things that stand out to me is the polished bolt handle and jeweled bolt....

I usually will only buy a complete and original old winchester. As I looked at this one I did take note of the polished knob and jewelled bolt, but had to make a quick decision if those items should hold me back from purchase. The rest of the gun was too nice to pass up, so I bit the bullet.
