Seldom seen ramp #5. Rule classifies this as an experimental. It's mounted a 98%+ 1955 375 H&H.
Anyone else have a rifle with #5 or better yet a #4?
Very likely figment of someones vivid imagination. In 1955 Winchester folks would not go into trouble of doing something like this. Looks like custom job to me.
Cool ramp! Now you can't hold back on showing us pics of your '55 375 H&H..!! I'd love to see it.

Bit by bit. I'm holding out till he shows us the butt plate....
lol. You are a pre-64 sleuth, BSA!!

It's not a figment of someone's vivid imagination....it's a documented variation (#5 version) of a M70 front sight ramp. The ramp was cross-hatched with a roll die after being soldered into place. The 1955 year of production of this rifle matches up with the serial # range when the #5 version ramp was used.
Mr Poconojack ,We have learned the best way to handle this sick f#$k is put on or just plane IGNORE.... he is all over the fire and has had 10 different names. very best WinPoor
Thanks for the photos of your 375 H&H, Hoogie! It's a great gun in a great caliber and to have one with a rare ramp makes it even cooler!
Eric
That sure is a beautiful '55 375 H&H. I have one just like it. I love mine. Have you shot yours yet???
Please feel free to post some pictures of your 338 Alaskan as well. We've been discussing the virtues of the mighty 338 win mag here for the last month. The 338 is also one of my favorites. I'll be letting that one go to EricM here in about 5 months. Feel's like I'll be getting rid of one of my babies though, but Eric is a damn good man and I know he'll use it and appreciate the hell out of it.
Nice rifle. It would have been more prudent for folks at Winchester to throw couple of cross bolts into that stock instead or cross-hatching rear of front sight base. That would prevent stock from cracking from substantial recoil of .375 Magnum cartridge.
Another pre 64 screw up I made was a special order mid 50's 375 H&H, It was a heavy barrel .375 with NO irons and it had crossbolts , I think it was super grade ,it was drilled and tapped. I knew I had to many items in the bucket list to get to thump polar bears or whales in the head and I passed. The fellow that had ordered the gun had hunted it one time in Alaska, it had a low power high dollar German 1.5 X 5 Swaro scope. very best WinPoor
BSA, I didn't know you were getting rid of your Alaskan.. I am glad it will be going to a good home.
OP- Awesome 375! Man, talk about making a guy green with envy!
That is fine .375 and unusual glare reducing ramp is nice bonus. According to DN you can artificially age recoil pad by using spent tea bags. Being pad hater myself I have never tried it but DN knows more about classic American firearms than most can hope to leran in couple of lifetimes.
