Yep, original rear sight is gone and the front sight hood does not appear to be original....

I was tempted by it myself. I noticed the aftermarket sight and recoil pad too. The seller says the sight is a Marble's replacement. I'm attempting to acquire a .416 Rem Mag Model 70 Classic, so I will pass on this .375.

That's pretty common with the pads. They sit in the safe for 60 years and the pads get deformed a bit.

Yeah,it still looks like a nice rifle. I'm surprised no one's bid on it yet.

Folks who want to shoot and hunt shouldn't let tiny collector flaws get in the way of buying good rifles. Of course they should not pay collector prices either.

Here's a pre 64 375 H&H with mint metal, but unoriginal stock and no rear sight. The guy must have wanted a lower comb stock for use with a peep sight.

Otherwise it's perfect metal and off to Gene Simillion soon for a Legend stock.

Price? Way less than half an all original collector and far more useful than the full blown collector I owned that ended up as a safe queen.

Bob, I totally agree with you. I'd pull the stock and throw the barreled action into a McMillan. You'd have the ultimate hunting rifle then. Ask me how I know that...

That's a sweet rifle Bob. You did very well on that deal. You could always find a rear sight for it, but they are pretty expensive. Generally topping out around $275.00...

I have pretty much the same rifle but mine is a transition era. Mine never had a rear sight and had the low comb.

bsa: I have not decided ....I am into it cheap enough I may yank the tube and install a LW 10 twist Krieger that will finish at 23". I already have the barrel here. Sweet.

May then go with an island rear or Talley detachable with matching peep.

Realistically though I doubt I will ever need the irons. Might leave it scoped only.

reedman a lot of guys seem to have liked the low combs.....this one you can see where there was a Lyman peep sight installed by the shade of metal.

The stock is clearly a standard stock with the barrel lump cut out but nicely opened up for the 375 H&H barrel contour.

I bought this one with the idea of substantially remodeling it, though.

Mine never had the "boss"in the stock and has a Lyman 48 with the stock cut out for it.

Might have been factory like that....I hear some came with peeps.

No doubt my stock was not original in any way.

What is a decent price for a mid 50's 375H&H in good shape?

I feel that this gun is priced reasonably. Not a steal but if I needed another one I'd probably buy it.

Good shape? Here's some prices quoted from "The red book of Winchester values":

70% "good condition": "$2,190.00"

80% "very good condition": $2,555.00

90% "Excellent condition": $2,920.00

That's a nice rifle, but something looks off when comparing the receiver to the barrel. Not similar amounts of wear. He also has it listed at "98% bluing", which seems too generous to me.. Again, that's looking at the receiver.. The rifle in the OP looks more like what an original rifle should look like in terms of bluing on the receiver and barrel. However, it may be the lighting or the camera. Hard to say exactly..
