Here's a question for the Winchester brain trust:

I have too many 270's and only one 280, and am feeling the need to thin the herd a bit.

One of the 270's is a 2008 Limited Edition FWT. The 280 is a FWT Shot Show Special.

I'd like to keep the Limited Edition as it has some good memories associated with it. And I NEED a 280. grin So I was considering having a 'smith swap the barrels and then selling the SSS rifle with the 270 barrel attached.

The SSS is like new and has some pretty nice wood on it. The Limited Edition is pretty nice but it has some honest hunting dings in the stock.

Perhaps I would come out ahead to just sell the 280 SSS as is, and use the proceeds to get a new barrel on the Limited Edition?

Any thoughts?
Don't overthink this. Plenty of 280s out there. Skip the barrel swaps; only going to decrease resale. Sell one of the 270s if you must; or just do the looney thing and buy another 280!

If you swap barrels there is a chance the headspace will be off and require machining? If that's the case the cost goes up. If the headspace is fine a swap is simple and will accomplish what you want.

Truth is there isn't a nickles difference between a 270 & 280. you must be a loonie? smile
Sounds like an easy enough swap. You might want to tell the gunsmith to time the markings on each

Halfway between .270 and .280 is .275. There's a cartridge with that caliber designation that might work too.

Sorry, had to say it.
But I hear that odd numbered calibers are gay...

Not actually. They're just odd!

Keeping all of your rifles seems like the best choice. At least it is a path that has worked well for me.

I very seldom sell firearms, but it seems as though when I do sell one, I almost immediately start to miss it.
