Very nice, I'd hunt with that. I'm liking the Model 70 action, I just acquired one in 222 Rem. and would love to build a lightweight Model 70 in 250-3000 or 25 Souper.

My personal experience shows that steel mounts are “tougher”, and as JB has pointed out the QD mounts hold zero quite well. Long story short,I just don’t trust Talley LW mounts on a steep mountain hunt.

Understand on the steel vs aluminum, was just curious on the QD vs Fixed part. You typically only see them on guns with back-up irons.

I agree. Need to be replaced- don't belong on a sheep gun. Don't understand the logic of having those at all on a rifle where those levers will snag on alder and will repeatedly bang on rocks and slides. Makes no sense. My sheep gun built by Patrick Holehan has both a wooden and a synthetic stock with 1" and 30 mm rings- neither of which have levers. Those are reserved for my 416 Rigby also built by him.

QDs would be handy if a scope went down and you had another dialed in with matching rings. If I was heading on a Sheep hunt and spending the money I would probably not chance one scope. It would be faster than trying to mount a spare and dial in.

Faster? Really? WTF? Takes me 30 sec more to use an allen/star wrench than QDs on my .270? Yeah let me see how fast I can get this scope on- how utterly ridiculous.

Doesn't make any sense whatsoever on a sheep rifle. None. Besides, you do know those levers are extra weight when compared to screws...........

I'd switch the levers out as well, but that is looney quibbling at its finest. All in all, it looks like a great rifle.

I like the way that build turned out. I also like model 70 actions. I don't shoot fly weight rifles worth a hoot anyway.
