A few years ago I inherited my grandfather's 1894 Winchester. The story is that he received it, new, in 1912 for his 12th birthday. I'd like to research the carbine but the serial number is missing. It looks as if it's been worn away over time.

It's in great shape, I'd like to hunt with it someday.

My question is, is there another place on the carbine that the serial number appears other than the underside in front of the lever??

Thanks,

No, that is the only place the serial number can be found. Little can be learned from the serial number for a 1912 model 1894 as the factory records are no longer available. The cut off is around serial number 360,000
