Anybody know the twist rate Winchester used for .38-55 caliber guns in the model 1894 or 94 guns? I'm thinking it's 1-20".
My 50 year old Lyman reloading manual says it is 1 in 18
Not sure, but do know it'll spin the hell out of 260/265 gr hard cast Beartooth and Cast Performance bullets to the tune of 1855 fps with RL-7, deer and pigs cant think of bucking those loads, I'd shoulder shoot the biggest bull elk that ever lived inside 200 yards with those loads and my M-94 equipped with the Lyman receiver peep. smile

Good luck with your 38-55 WCF pursuits, it's a fine, fun cartridge.
My Model 94 Legendary Frontiersmen .38-55 has a 15 twist 24" barrel and stabilizes my custom cast 275 gr gas check easily at 1620 fps.The Highwall is also a 38-55 but uses the longer 2.125 " case vs the 2.082" for the 94

You bet it did pard I was shocked with the accuracy..My first outing was only at 40 yds just to chrono and test the new cast bullet wasn't trying to shoot bug holes but what a surprise !

LOL, same here Woody, the light weight barrel with magazine tube and forearm cap all dovetailed and pinned in is what threw me for a loop, they're not supposed to shoot that well, I bought my bullets sized to .380" and gas checked, I don't think an elk or bison could hold one of those hard little missiles, deer and pigs certainly cant.
if i could find a donor rifle i'd send it to jes and have him punch it out to 38/55

Matter of fact, I have a cherry 20" Model 94 leaning over there in a corner I can make a man a good deal on, bone stock, unbubba'd, I can see it from here, it's one of the newer ones with the receiver factory drilled and tapped in case a man wanted to mount a scope, no crossbolt safety either.
