Picked up an early post 64 win 284. Some lefty had it fitted with a Bishop stock and it is wearing a vintage Redfield Full Field (made in USA). The wood is absolutely beautiful on it. Not sure if I want to have my smith fix the stock for a right handed shooter or leave as is.

The wood is very nice, but that comb is a little too much for my taste....

I know what you mean about the comb, although it isn't much different than my Cooper JRS in 22 mag. My smith said he could reshape the stock where you can never tell it was anything else. As a righty, that stock is pretty much worthless to me. I took the rifle in on trade and it still had both of the factory mags.

That is a very nice piece of wood, and as we all know, that style stock was all the rage in the 1960's. Cool rifle.

Kansan, whatever you do, dont try to take the action apart, its a pita to reassemble correctly. Seems like you need to find someone that needs a left hand stock now. Goid luck with it ! Mel

I may have a home 4 the left handed stock!

My taxidermist and her whole family are leftys.

If mine, I'd cut that cheek piece and comb off, leaving some Monte Carlo rise. That would be pretty easy to do, would lighten the stock a bit.

Nice wood.

Edited to add, you can mount that scope a good bit lower.

That is probably what I'm going to do. My Smith is very meticulous and he said he could do that and I think that is where I'm going with it...I just have to wait until after Deer season here cause he's swamped.....I'll drop it off at the end of the year. Once the stock is reshaped, I'll address the scope mounting.

That is a beautiful piece of wood.

A good wood man could make that wart disappear. wink

Thats a great score. Love that caliber though I have never owned a 284

I sold it because I didn't have an attachment to it, but it did finance a 1952 M70 308 featherweight...I'm picking up a Ruger MK II this weekend in 243 that I am going to rebarrel in 284 win. The 284 win intrigues me.....
