Can't believe they haven't addressed the rust on the grip cap. Appears to be built on a real 300 WM pre 64.

Not that it matters, but weird that there appear to be three scope mount holes in the bridge. What I find really strange is who builds such a rifle and puts conventional QD swivel bases on it?!

A lot of his rifles have regular sling studs. I don't know when the fancy 2 screw sling studs came available but I've noticed a lot of the earlier built customs not just his didn't have them.
Also the customer can order what he liked.

Barnett has some fine rifles.

As long as we are knitt-picking it...what is up with that bolt handle.,,??? Looks like someone shoved a Remmy bolt into that old '59...

It certainly is a beautiful rifle. Bolt handle is not my favorite either; but then I didn't commission the rifle.

Kinda speaks to the quality of those pre 64 M70 barrels, to put that much work into a rifle and keep the factory barrel...ah the good old days!

Someone put a set of 375 H&H bases on the gun. There is no screw in the rear hole as it is most likely not even drilled and tapped for that base. Probably was a 30-06. They turned off the goose egg so it is not a stretch that they removed the caliber markings (professionally) and remarked. Whomever owned the gun looks like they used it. It is a shame that they let it rust in places. High Quality work for sure. He did a very nice job on the tang as well as the entire gun.

Is it possible to use a post 64 barrel on a pre 64 if you cut a groove for the extractor?

Lolo Sporting Goods has a nice Bob Mason 7mm Rem Mag with a pre-64 action and classic sporter barrel, so yes?

I had considered purchasing that and having it rebarreled to 300 Win Mag.

However Lolo refuses to take the action out of the stock to see if it has 458 stamped on the bottom of the recoil lug.

It is possible but you also need to cut the 41 degree cone and then index the extractor cut. The Classics will screw onto a pre 64 action just fine but I believe will index 180 degrees out. I may be wrong on that. That is a pre 64 Win 70 barrel as it has trade mark spelled out not the circled R from 1963 on.

That is a nice looking rifle nyrifleman. I guess they're scared of buggering up the screws or something. But when someone is asking that much for a rebuilt rifle you have a right to know what you are buying.

Thanks for the reply.
I knew that was one of the mistakes they made with the reintroduced BACO guns was using a different barrel thread along with abandoning the original open trigger.

A sample of one that I did (classic fwt barrel onto pre 64 action) just needed the extractor cut opened up a bit to fit perfectly. (like about the thickness of a dime or quarter). Headspace was fine.
