Hello I have a 1894 eastern carbine in 38/55 . The butt stock appears to be a model 94. The 1894 I own has a serial number indicating it was made in the 1921 or 22.

To my knowledge The model 94 came out a few years later. Is there a chance it left the factory that way? As in perhaps the 38/55 was not sent out until a few years later?

It has what appears to be an original carbine sight? But it looks very New. Do they make modern carbine sights?

I only have an older I pad so I don't know how to post photos except in the classifieds.

It is also not having an original steel butt plate. Where could one find one?

Winchester changed the name from the Model 1894 to the Model 94 in 1927 (the millionth gun), but the same carbine butt stock was used until 1937 (approx. 500,000) guns later.

There were two different steel plates used on the post 1937 carbine stocks, serrated and checkered.

If you are referring to the Winchester 44A carbine ladder rear sight, it has been reproduced.

So here is what I have concluded.

The 1894 has a 94 stock.

I have an 94 carbine that had Native American style wood inlays put in it. It is a non saddle ring built in the late twenties early thirties I believe. It is the only gun my wife was excited about me purchasing! It is a 30 wcf. So I swapped the wood! Now I have a " Native American style 1894 38/55!

Now should I sell the 1894 forearm separately? It doesn't fit the best on the 94.
