Can post pics later but mainly looking for an approximate value on one. Was my grandpa's gun and has above average blueing and stock.
Grandpa's gun?
You cannot place a number on that.
My granddad was not a hunter unfortunately.
If he had been, and willed me a Pre-64 M-70, I'd be buried with that rifle.
Cammoman: Hoping to see the pictures and then will try to help you out.
Yeah lots of variables as of now - Featherweight, Standard Rifle, Supergrade, modifications or not, etc etc etc.
Will check back.
Good luck in your quest to assess value.

i am assuming it is a standard grade (24" barrel). if a FW, the barrel will be 22". prices vary greatly - if it has a recoil pad, perhaps sights missing, swivels replaced with swivel studs and wood and blue in average shape, it is a $600-800 rifle. if all original and in very good shape it may eclipse $1000. If it is a supergrade (black forend cap and supergrade stamped on the floor plate) then you need to get professional advice which mine is not.

You "assume" its a std wt? Damn you are good. Getting that from the op's excellent description. I have 6 pre 64 rifles, can you please look in your crystal ball and tell me what they are worth.
Took pictures and it says my files are too big. Cropped the pics and still no luck. Can't seem to figure out how to get them attached?
Uncut, standard, original finishes in fair condition, missing the sight hood but has rear sight. Scope undetermined, not alot of value there. Would help to know the serial number. If it checked out in person, looking down the barrel, no rust or pitting, no cracks in the stock, etc. I'd be at $700 for that gun.
Cammoma: I wish I could see the bluing and its status a little better but it looks fair+ at least from my vantage point.
Original sight hoods can be found - often cheaply.
I would surmise a quick sale for you at $800.00 to $850.00 in my neck'o the woods.
IF.... that is a Leupold scope add one hundred dollars.
Best of luck in your sale (if that is what you are doing?).
By the way WELCOME to the campfire!
