Damn, that's a little cutie, if I was in need it'd be mine.

I've been tempted to hit buy now a few times.
Posted By: RevMike Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
Free shipping if you do. It's a few hundred less than others I've seen, not nearly in that shape.

It is a heck of a deal.

I think that'd look really good in one of those new Bridges stocks. Just sayin'.

So, buying one that was LNIB with a Leupy VX3 for $600 was a good deal? Couldn't resist as the 6,5x55 is my FAVORITE and the M70 FW just looks good!
Posted By: RevMike Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
I'd say that knocked it out of the park.

Best part was, I made an offer and they accepted! I don't get that lucky very often!
Posted By: beretzs Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
I gave 525 for mine a few years ago, but no extra scope! grin

Brown stock, red pad?

I have one already.

Black stock, black pad.

In .280 Remington.
Posted By: RevMike Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
Finally went for $885. Pretty good deal. And yes, I was very tempted by your .280. Very tempted.
Posted By: beretzs Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
I like mine Mike. I may pull it out to the front this fall. Does 2900 with 140 Accubonds and RL26 and shoots em well.
Posted By: RevMike Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
Post some pics when you do.
Posted By: beretzs Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/09/20
Will do Mike.

When you mentioned the Bridges it started gears turning for me. It’d be super in an EDGE Bridges stock. I’d probably have to fight myself to not carry it elk hunting a little.

That was a great snag. Someone here?

Thought maybe it was you.
Posted By: nyrifleman Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/10/20
The 280 kept me from bidding.
Posted By: MapleHill Re: M70 Classic 6.5x55 - 06/13/20
Wow, IIRC, I paid @$550 when I bought mine BNIB in 2004. Looks as though it was a pretty good "investment"

Man, I wish I had got in on that auction. In my opinion that is the ultimate m70 featherweight. If any of you lucky fellas ever want to sell one send me a PM.

I also think the 6.5x55 in a M70 with CRF is a very desirable combination and have been looking for one. Sunday my search came to an end when I snagged a beautiful ANIB Featherweight Classic in 6.5x55mm, complete with hang tags at the Reno Cabelas. They had it marked $899 and I walked out with it for $799. Still smiling. smile

I believe that’s one of the stocks CDNN had for a while.
Good looking package.

Wow I like those super grade sling bases; very nice!

I’ve got the same rifle but not the SG stock. It’s a peach of a rifle. I’ve been wanting to put it in a Hunters EDGE but the SG stock is pretty nice.

It’s due for a scope update and some lighter rings as well. But it’s a darned good shooting rifle.

The one on GB looks nice, but what do you guys think is a reasonable price? I wonder what it will go for.

Less than the starting bid

The new era "Classic" Winchester Model 70 Super Grade CRF rifles have morphed over the by-now intervening decades just as about all else. Notably the SG wood, such as quality walnut an ever diminishing commodity.
Bought mine, pix below, 338 Win Mag, NIB from gun shop of decades closing in mid nineties; @ $600. I have a few Pre '64 70 SG rifles and one also in .338, with stock to vie. But this likely my most handsome.

Best & Stay Safe!
John

I think you should hold your guilt feelings and dump them while you take it out shooting. I never feel any guilt when I shoot mine.

This thread inspired me. I have one of these rifles (Fwt Classic 6.5x55) that has had an annoying problem. If I put more than one round in the magazine the bottom round moves back and forth in the mag box, making a very audible metallic click as it hits the sides of the box. This has cost me a couple deer over the years. This annoying trait meant I couldn't have more than two rounds in the rifle. I tried a couple things to try to fix this. I bought an aftermarket follower (Callahan) but it didn't fix the problem. Then I had a machinist friend of mine grind down the bump in the follower to try to have the round on top of the bottom round put more pressure on it to keep it from moving. That didn't work. Reading this thread inspired me to take another look at the problem. Rather than grind down the bump further, I figured I'd try to build up the bottom of the follower to try to put some pressure on that bottom round. I put two narrow strips of duct tape on the bottom of the follower under where the bottom round sits and - - - voila' as the French say - - - it worked!! The bottom round now stays put and no more "clink". It's a low tech fix that should not be necessary but at least the problem is solved. I'm surprised that mine is the only one with this issue but I have not heard anyone else with this rifle and caliber mention it.

What’s the going value on a XTR featherweight in 6.5x55? There one local as well as a 7x57

cooper57m, does it have the 3 action screws, or the 2 screws. I have a early 90's M70 Classic stainless that has the 3 screws, and that screw in the middle has to be torqued just right in my gun or I have problems with (1) will drop a round before ejecting (2) have a rattle as you explained (3) loose play in the box (4) POI is different in a 3 shot group. Finally got it torqued right and recorded those numbers and now can remove barrel from stock, put it back in according to those numbers, and all is fine. The newer Model 70's do not have that 3rd screw.

It all depends on condition.. Anywhere from $350-700... In this area, anyway...

The XTR?? The ones I've seen at that level have been the CRF versions..

Woof ! But part of that is due to a scope mounted too - still that's a bunch!.. Now I'm wondering what my M70 FWT Classic in 6.5X55 would bring?? Yowza... I hafta look - I might have one of each on hand... Hmmm...

FWI, this past December I found a New Haven Featherweight Classic in 6.5x55 SE with the hang tags still dangling from the trigger guard at the Reno Cabelas for $799. I almost dislocated my shoulder getting my wallet out.
