today in a little hole in the wall place, I spotted a very nice ‘64 in .300wm.. a 3-9 Leupold on it and a good mount.. Little blueing wear, a few scratches in the stock, but not bad.. It seems original.. What was the barrel length on these rifles.. I was thinking 25 inches, but that could be the .338.. They are asking $1500.. I thought it was a fair price... What is your thoughts???

Very good deal! That is one I'd make a move on if I found one. I think they were 26" barrels on them, but I'd have to look it up to be sure.
I have one, I'll measure the barrel when I get home. Mime was in a Boyd's lam. stock when I got it. I paid a lot less, but that was several years ago, and the seller didm't realize what he had. Very accurate, amd I love the rifle, although I really have mo meed for a .300 mag.

WyoCoyoteHunter: The barrel length on the pre-64 300 Winchester Magnum Model 70 Rifles was 24". The barrel length on the latter 338 Winchester Magnum and 375 H&H Magnum Rifles was 25". The 264 Winchester Magnum (non-Featherweights) was 26".
Pretty good price if you really want one.
Good luck if you decide to go after it.
Ask the shop to throw in ammo, case, lower the price, show cash etc etc etc.

Had one, traded it. It's was worth $1,500 back when I traded it a number of years ago, seems like I had $400 or so in it.

Those are pretty rare. IIRC, W/W brought out the 300 WM in '63, discontinued the Pre-64 the next year. So, not that many were made, pretty narrow window.

So, if it's in good shape, I would think $1,500 would be a fair price. I know the value of blue steel bolt guns has been pretty flat, but that one is quite special.

Pre '64 could be 24" 25" 26". BBL.

Good price if Pre 64.
cisco1: IF... you are saying that the pre-64 Winchester Model 70's in 300 Winchester Magnum caliber came in 3 (three!) different barrel lengths then I contend you are incorrect.
The original poster inquired about the length of the barrels on the pre-64 Winchester Model 70's in caliber 300 Winchester Magnum! I answered that question (correctly according to my Rifles and references) and that answer was/is 24"!
If you wish to go off on your own tangent and report that "pre-64 could be 24", 25", 26" BBL" then again you are incorrect (or at best only partially correct!) as I own pre-64 Winchester Model 70's with 20" barrels, 22" barrels and 28" barrels as well as the afore mentioned 24" barrels, 25" barrels and 26" barrels.
Long live the Riflemans Rifle!

Thanks guys.. Have to think on it.. Wish it were 25 just because!!!
WyoCoyoteHunter: The last pre-64 Winchester Model 70 I had customized was built with a 25" barrel (280 Remington!) - I also prefer 25" barrels myself.
24" is a tad short for a high intensity cartridge like the 300 Winchester Magnum - IMO.
Give it a try my man - you won't loose much if you don't get fond of it right away and choose to sell it.

$1,500.00 is a great deal, IF it is all original.. If the OP doesn't know what he's looking at and its not original, it may be worth much less.. That's when I start running the other direction. Also, if it is all original, I'd be on it pretty quick. I also have to add that the OP would finally have a good 300wm worth owning..
