Have always wanted a fast twist .22 centerfire (.22 Creed, .22-.243. 22-250 AI etc.) Stainless left hand options seem almost non-existent (even finding a stainless Remington Model 700 S/A). Seems like theres some stainless S/A rugers around.

Does anybody know if McMillan offers/can make the Game hunter stock in left hand for the Ruger American?

Also, could different bottom metal be added to the Left Hand Ruger to accept an extended Mag, similar to what’s offered in some of the right hand versions?

I was thinking I could by a cheap LH stainless S/A Ruger American and replace the stock with a McMillan, change out the barrel and bottom metal. Add in a drop in Timber trigger and have my custom fast twist .224 cal centerfire for pretty cheap compared to some models. I like the tang style safety of the Ruger too.

All that being said does anyone think this is a decent idea or am I just “polishing a turd”? Should I just wait till I can find a stainless browning, Remington action/buy a 1-8” twist LH tikka when they become available again?
Unless you plan to do the work yourself, I would not put
Much effort into making a budget gun fit my dreams
Find a LH Tikka 1-8 twist 22-250 put a B&C stock on it
PM me. I might have something for you
@OP, Given that a complete RAR rifle will cost almost as much as a raw LH Rem Stainless action, and given that there are far more parts available to customize a Rem 700, it might be worth the time and effort to sit tight and pay the piper when a SA SS Rem 700 action pops up for sale. Just my two cents, YMMV,,,
The stainless left hand RAR’s in 223 have a 1 in 8 twist as well
I have done upgrades on Ruger 77s and Savages and now think I should stick to Rem 700s or better. Just not much aftermarket stuff for the RAR. The beauty of the RAR is it's price point. Get a Remington, or wait for a Tikka or settle for the RAR 223.
I can’t PM yet as I don’t have enough posts, maybe email? I’m in Alaska too so that would make things easy
I like the RARs for several reasons. The big thing for me is the 70 degree bolt throw doesn't interfere with my thermal scope like my 700s did. I don't know about the McMillian but that seems like overkill for the RAR in my opinion. Boyds does make LH RAR stocks though and I've considered trying to cut a RH Magpul stock to work on a LH rifle so I could use their mag system.

I have 2 "custom" RAR stainless. I took the barrel off a 223 and had a Remington 204 Ruger barrel rechambered and rethreaded for a 20P. That gun has stacked up a lot of fur for me. It's a 1/2" gun all day with 35gr Bergers over H4895. I bought a 708 youth here on the fire and had that 223 barrel rechambered to 22-250 with the 8 twist barrel. That one will consistently shoot 50, 60 and 75 gr handloads into sub 1" group also.

BTW - just this week on one of the boards I saw a RAR 22-250 8 twist take off for sale. I don't remember where but the price seemed right. Those RAR barrels will shoot very well.

I'd say go for it if you can find a LH SS RAR. That right there might be the biggest challenge.
If you go with a Boyds stock they offer AI compatible bottom metal that fit their inlet.

There's a few pics floating around on this site of McMillans made to fit Ruger Americans. IIRC the work was done by Rick Steinhour. I think that is about your only option for a McMillan on a RAR.

As a side note, unless you have a SS LH RAR in hand they are not easy to find currently. At least I haven't had any luck.

Might be easier and almost as cost effective to source a LH Tikka with a 8" twist barrel and restock.

My email is Huntandfish907@gmail
Lefties have too few options
Agreed. They are rare. Happen to find one in 223 in a small shop in Washington. Picking it up next week. Should be a nice Ruger American Compact SS LH...

You done good to find this.
He actually had two. Missed out on the first. Then he said he had one more... Lucky day for me!
I picked up one last year. Ruger never made the 223 in LH stainless in 22" full length stock.

I put a full length stock on it, that Ruger sent me.

Damn thing shoots one ragged hole at 100 yards if I do my part

I'm pretty sure they did. I bought 2. one's still NIB under the bed. I know for sure it was a FL stock and 8 twist barrel. Not sure on the length though.
All the Americans in 223 are 1:8 twist.
As far as I know, the Davidsons run of LH SS did not include a 22" 223 FL stock, but maybe some slipped through from somewhere else.
Most of the other short action calibers they made in both versions, so it would be odd if they hadn't made 22" 223.
