I got a marketing email from Savage today that I alarmist deleted. I ended up opening it and it mentioned their backcountry extreme series with six premium purpose built rifles.

I clicked on the link and as I’m going through the list, at the very bottom is the 110 Ultralite in left hand!

There has been speculation about this rifle for months as has been commented on in the “Why no lightweight love for lefties” thread.

Well it looks like this has finally come to fruition. In addition to this, it appears that it will be offered in the same cartridges choices that righties get. Hats off to Savage for keep us lefties in mind. Now I just need to decided which chambering to go with. I did notice that they don’t offer the camo stock in left hand, but I really don’t care, besides beggars can’t be choosers.

I think you will really like the Savage 110 Ultralite, in whatever caliber you choose. My own, a RH in 6.5 PRC, has proven to be very accurate with both my worked up handloads and factory Hornady 143 gr. ammo. As far as camo goes- mine was the plain gray, but I added a Kuiu pattern from Gunskins. Very easy to apply, and looks great.

They also can make it in many other calibers through their "custom shop".
Don't expect it fast though. I had them build a LH Timberline in 350 Legend. Quoted 6-8 weeks but reality was 5 months. That's why I ordered in Feb.

Did you happen to weigh yours before you put optics on it. I was watching a review on a 280AI the guy said it weight 6 lbs 4 oz, however the advertised weight is 5.85 lbs. Have you found that yours weighed the same or more than advertised?

Good to know. Do you think this holds true with the Ultralites as these aren’t Savage made barrels, they are carbon fiber barrels made by Proof Research.

Something that I have been thinking about lately, over the years Savage has always advertised left hand Model 110/10 bolt rifles in almost every caliber you can think of. But you seldom see them for sale used or new in anything except 270, 30-06, 7RM, etc. Im thinking they dont make a whole lot of them in the other calibers?

But... At least Savage offers the OPTION of building a rifle in the other chamberings, even if it is a custom order. Try ordering a LH Ridgeline in .270Win or .30-06 Spfd. When I pinged Christensen Arms, the response I got was "We are only building Left Hand rifles in the more popular chamberings." ???

This is the bore sizes proof research shows. I would imagine Savage does the chambering. You could always call Effie at Savage and see what they would do.

No 358?

They don't show .358 in carbon or steel blanks

ER Shaw would likely build a 358 for you. I kept meaning to have a 358 bored out or built. Not sure what keeps holding me up. Love the cartridge; have it in a couple BLR's.

I do have a Savage with Douglas barrel in 35 Whelen. It's 1:12, but it still does surprisingly well with 200grn. For deer I like the 220grn Speers. I've used them in all of my 35 calibers from 35 rem to 35 whelen, and I've been happy with all of them. I'm sure the flat meplat is horrible for BC, but at the 50 yds or less that I shoot most deer in the thick cut over growth I typically hunt, it really doesn't matter.

I did weigh mine, it was also at 6lb. 4oz. I suspect the 'advertised' weight was with the lightest of the spacers for the Accufit stock. I mounted a Leupold VX-3HD 4.5-14x40 scope on mine, with Talley LW mounts, and the final weight is 7.5 lbs.
