Builder is legit. And seller has good reviews. Smells ok to me. All it takes is two bidders to get the price up. Almost placed a bid today. But need to constantly remind myself of my need to downsize. Plus the LOP is to long to my liking.

I will suspect we'll see the price jump between now and when the auction closes.

I like the treatment around the tang which enabled a slimmer grip without a tang redo. I also thought the builder did a.good job with slimming the forestock. Since it is a.factory stock wonder if it was a job fitting the aftermarket bottom metal unit in? I would have gone with a barrel sling swivel and irons but that is simply my preference.

It appears that there's a factory walnut stock included in the auction, but the stock in the lead photo is certainly not a Winchester factory stock.

The lead GB picture is a custom stock. Invoice shows Sunny Hill bottom metal. I agree with iron sights and barrel band swivel. I asked Mr. Kobe to do both when he rebarreled my LH PO Ackley to 7x57. Mix-n-match Lyman 48 rear sight to fit the LH Mauser receiver. Not as fancy as the GB posting. But, it will do... wink

I figure the GB rifle could be recreated for closer to $4K, at least around here.
Biggest variable being what you paid for the blank. Wholesale for blanks is a whole lot cheaper than retail!

Todd Ramirez does fantastic work. I spent a bit of time at his booth at the Dallas Safari Club show handling some of his rifles.

Looking at the invoice, the blank was like $1,535 and the labor was like $7,500. Beautiful stock no doubt, but hardly worth $9,000.

Most used customs seem to resell for $.35-.40 on the dollar. This one doesn’t seem to stray far from that otherwise we would have noticed some bidding.

I contacted the seller after the auction ended and was not sold. He told me it sold locaoin his shop. I did ask, however was not told what it sold for.

Just a FYI

Good thing it sold because I had enough $$ to pick up a sweet Francotte SxS double rifle in 30-40 Krag at the Las Vegas antique arms show. And it even is a lefty friendly rifle with 0 cast and no cheek piece on it!

I like the work that Jim does on his custom builds. Dream of what he used to charge, then I wake up!
