With just under 11 hours to go this blued .270 isn't running too far behind utah708's stainless .30-06. Current bid is $1,525.

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=463584109

This afternoon someone put up a LH blued .30-06 Sporter from the first run in the late 90's. It'll be interesting to see what that fetches.

That 30-06 might be mine your talking about. Sorry for the ignorance but how do you know it is from the first run? I will also be putting a left hand kimber of Oregon 84 on gunbroker today that has a factory 24 inch bull barrel which I haven't seen before in a lefty.

I am heading to africa for the first time in a few months, so some toys have to go!
Besides the serial number, the stock is a little different the most noticeable being the thin red buttpad.

BTW, good luck with you auction. The high prices these lefty M70s fetch make me feel good about the ones I own. Except for the 7mm Mag sleep
tmitch got it - the first ones had the red butt pad and the stock lines were a little more squared off. Winchester made those from 1996 until sometime around 2000 or 2001, I forget, then they stopped for a few years. Then they introduced the LT with the black pad and a more rounded forend in a right hand version and when they got around to making more left handers, around 2004 or so, they made the lefties in the LT version.

I may be off a year or two on those dates, the only one I remember for sure was 1996 when they were introduced.

That .270 went for $2,325.

crazy...
Posted By: tmitch Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/25/15
Unbelievable! Guess it pays to save the box, an almost identical .270 only brought $1230 in December. I can't believe it brought more than that Stainless '06 that sold last week!

Just saw that... Wow...

I can't seem to figure it out. I recall someone here picked up a blued 30-06 a few months ago on GB for $900 or so. I suppose timing is everything.

Montana Rifle Company is looking better to me every day.

Saw a very nice like new Wood Blue LH Win 70 Black Pad 338 Win mag at the Wasilla AK gun show, was ported and had a cap. Under $900
Seller is from Fairbanks and posts here on occasion.

Unfortunately, that one sold yesterday.
Posted By: tmitch Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/27/15
Yep, I called yesterday afternoon as soon as I found it. Gone. This morning I get the e-mail alert from GI of the listing.

Priced as it should be.
Posted By: tmitch Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/27/15
Would you sell yours for that?

According to who?

That's why Gunbroker is better for determining what the market will bear as far as value. But that can be false as well, if more than one person really want the particular one.

According to who?

Who the h*ll do you think?!...according to *me*...

Anyone who would pay anywhere near that $2000+ selling price needs a drug test and/or a lobotomy.

I don't own one and don't want one. Not an itch I need to scratch.
If I did, I wouldn't spend more that $800 for that rifle. And I wouldn't pay much more for a SS model.
I've passed on them in the past and will continue to unless priced accordingly.
Posted By: tmitch Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/28/15
Then why do you even bother posting on it? We're all surprised at what they're bringing nowdays. The fact is they don't, and probably never will, make them again. That there are some people willing to pay that kind of money for them establishes their market value, whether you agree or not.
Using your logic they should price this at $3500 because that's what it cost new and all I wanna spend on it. Chevy for sale

"Then why do you even bother posting on it?"

If you don't like my opinion move on.

Like most, I saw the stupidity on the $ spent on that rifle; some posted "HOLY $&*#!!!", others like myself commented on the outrageous price and commented on what it is actually worth.

Market value can influenced by a few nutcases (or many nutcases), if you want to spend $2500 on a blued run-of-the-mill LH 70, go for it. 'Fire members here absolutely will not, "market" bullsh*t notwithstanding.

If guys here can sell them for that, by all means go for it.
It is worth profiting if the idiots are willing.

It's ironic...ScottF270's fine .30-06 (custom shop) KS brought $800 on GB and it was twice the rifle of this LH70.
Again, my .02.
Posted By: starsky Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/28/15
I reckon its "value" is whatever the market will pay for it. So, right now, I'd say they're worth somewhere in that $2k range.

That one was tempting... Especially given the recent price increase for KS stocks...
Posted By: broomd Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 01/29/15
It sure was. Immaculate rifle in a great chamber from a good seller. Tough to beat that.
If I didn't already own a 700 FS in '.06 I would have purchased it before the GB sale...

I also have to say that the presentation and number of photos was first rate. The straight wood grain is pretty standard, but one could see it clearly for what it is.

Given the fact that it is almost certainly unfired, NITB and complete with papers and box, in a popular caliber, and from a trustworthy seller, I can see someone wanting it enough to pay the price. It is a nice rifle and getting hard to find, certainly in this condition.

Personally, I have been getting them for less, ranging from about $750 to 1550, but who is to say that that will continue. The LH Model 70 Classic is my favorite model of rifle by far.

BTW, while I have had awfully good luck in buying here from great sellers, trust is a valuable item, as I have learned over the years from my law practice. There's nothing like it.

LMAO...I found a buddy lightly used 30/06 just like the 270 here for $575 two weeks ago.

Never seen a std Classic sported worth anything like $2k plus. People are driven nuts today by perceptions of rarity and have more money than brains.

"Perception is reality"
Posted By: Jim in Idaho Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 02/01/15
If you don't mind saying, where did you find a LH .30-06 for that price?

I found a couple of NIB LH Featherweights this past summer at a small gun store just outside Salmon, ID. The owner was selling them for the same retail price as new right hand Fwt's, so one of them followed me home and the other was sold the next day.

Jim: At a large gunstore in southern Maine. They aren't exactly common but they do show up now and then. My friend asked me to keep my eyes peeled for one last November so it took a couple of months before I bumped into one. He really wanted a 270 but the 30/06 was too good to pass up.

It's always good to have a credit card handy, you never know when opportunity will knock... wink
Posted By: BobinNH Re: HOLY $&*#!!! - 02/02/15
Gotta be ready... grin

I know people who work there...they have a 7 day hold policy, no money down;told them it was for a friend so got his name etc. I took a few cell pictures, texted him, with photos of rifle and his receipt. He came up 3 days later and bought. It was all pretty easy.
