Santa put a classic Boyds walnut stock under my tree with the hardware kit from Savage. I made the change yesterday, and I am very pleased with the results. I'll have to bed it later, but Im very pleased with the Boyd's stock. I like to have a few of my rifles sport a nice walnut stock.
I have a real nice Boyds Prairie Hunter in XX Claro walnut with Fleur de`Lis checkering that I picked up in the classifieds on another site for about half what it would have cost to order one. Plan on getting a Trophy Hunter to serve as the donor rifle, just haven't made up my mind what cartridge to do it up in yet. I'm torn between the .250 Savage AI, 6.5 Creedmoor and .338 Federal
this would be much more enjoyable if you guys would show photos of your toys. smile

Agreed, as I have a Savage in 243 that is itching for a stock replacement.

FWIW - I put a Boyd's laminated stock on my older, blind-magazine LH Savage in 270 Win a couple of years ago.
Some not-so-great cellphone photos are attached.
I am pleased with the stock.
I had it bedded, and the rifle accurized, by Savage Gunsmithing in Idaho.
Consistently shoots 0.5 MOA with any of the handloads I've tried.

Nice looking stock. Is it slippery without checkering?

Pics?
Snowwolfe,

the Boyd's forend shape provides surprisingly good grip without checkering.

but I haven't used the rifle yet in wet conditions - it's typically quite dry where I hunt here in the western U.S.

I couldn't remember if checkering was an option when I originally ordered the stock - but I just quickly checked the Boyd's website and it doesn't appear to be an option, but perhaps I didn't check carefully enough.

the Boyd's stock was the only reasonably affordable option for my older Savage rifle, but I am plenty satisfied with the stock and the value.
