The odds are a bit steeper than that. There were just 50 LH Ackley 98 Mausers (DeHaas, Bolt Action Rifles).

If you sold it through a dealer, see if they can look up the paper work. With the serial number, see if ATF can trace the current owner.
You are looking for a needle in a haystack but nothing is impossible.

Any chance you checked the serial number of the rifle you have? I'd be interested still.

We owned the rifle before serial numbers were registered. It was in the Colorado area.
