The pawn shop I use as my FFL transfer agent has a very clean Remington 700 BDL in 338 win mag for sale at $500. It is blued/walnut and looks scarcely fired or carried, and has the original open sights. It could easily be a rifle that never made it through the first box of shells. It has C prefix serial number, so might be 10-15 years old. You remember those--decent blue and the "bowling ball" shiny finish on the stock and the black forend tip? The safety does not lock the bolt, but the bolt does have the notch in it for a locking safety. So if you had the right safety lever, you could retrofit the gun with that feature if you prefer.

The pawn shop owner is an old and not-into-new-things guy, but I convinced him that I could walk him through the difficulties and legalities of shipping a gun. I suggested that it be shipped in a hard case so he didn't have to mess with a box, so you would need to add that cost in.

I will be offline for the next 4 days, but if you want to pursue it, shoot me a pm. It seems like a value at that price, but I cannot construct a rationale for why I would need a fourth rifle that shoots .338 bullets.
In play for someone here...
Good deal for someone. I already have too many projects in flight. Do not need another... If the lucky purchaser will please "stand up..." smile
That is a smoking deal there - I just can't justify buying it or I'd be all over it.
