No, I'm not the one selling this. wink

Was perusing gunbroker and saw this LH 581 with wood and bluing in extremely good shape, everything complete, starting bid is $199 which is a real good price. During the last shortage folks were asking near $500 or more for these. Over 100 lookers so far and five days to go on the auction but no bids yet. I had a LH 581 a long time ago and they are tack drivers.

Nice one. Be curious where it ends up in this market.

Doesn't look like you can mount a scope on it ?

Dove tails on top of receiver. Definitely a good deal anywhere close to the starting price...

A suppressed LH 581 with 4x Leupold is the only .22 rimfire that I own...

We drilled and tapped one for a rail. Actually worked very well.

That's a nice one. I have 2, one that I had rebarreled to 17 Mach II. The other I had weaver scope bases mounted to the receiver.

Hey OSU Sig, hope yer headed into a nice weekend!!! I also have a 581 LH have considered doing the conversion to CF. ???? Do they really take the pressure or do you load down sum???? Considering pretty serious rt now because I can't find a Rem. LH 700 in 17 fireball. I had one for awhile??? You know the story. I have the plans from a gentleman in USA . Can't remember his name off hand. Just would like some info on yours because ( you actually own one ) Does it work good? Any kinks or suggestions? I don't mind the single shot deal at all. I've even considered stubbing an HR or NEF but can't find one of them anywhere. They stop making something & everyone thinks they have a collected piece. Dang. Thanks for your time. Hope I didn't de rail the thread. Bill 🐾👣🐾👣

GWPGuy,
Good evening to you, Sir and I hope you have found a warm spot in your part of the world. I hope I didn't confuse you with my post but my re-barrel job of the 581 was to the 17 Mach II rimfire and not a centerfire caliber. I hope. this clears any confusion.

Someone's going to buy this, there is one bid so far.
Posted By: Snowwolfe Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/02/19
It amazes me Remington could produce such an accurate rifle while making it so cheap. I owned two and both were capable of .5 moa at 50 yards with decent ammo.
Posted By: mart Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/02/19
I paid $250 for a left handed one locally a couple of years ago. I have a right handed one I’ve had for nearly 30 years and this lefty is my second left handed one. I got stupid and sold my previous one. All three have been awesome shooters. Easily .5 inch at 50 yards with SV target ammo.

I’m following the auction but don’t anticipate it to end less than $350.

Really!!....good to know that is possible What base did you use?
Posted By: 30338 Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/02/19
EGW base. Have to drill through the base and then the receiver in the rear. The back of the receiver tapers down and you have to drill just in front of that for 2 screws. The front two holes are pretty easy.

Still a good buy at $250.00 with a bit over a day to go. I would anticipate a flurry of last minute bidding on this one.

Was watching a Remington 511P in pretty good shape that started at $150.00. It went to $205.00 and stayed there for several days, then this morning in the last couple of hours it went up to $294.99. Makes me feel good about the 510P I recently bought which was in better shape than this one. wink

I think you're right Jim, I expect a flurry of bids in the last 4 hours to put this one north of $350.
Posted By: 700LH Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/07/19
Thanks Jim, I have been watching this,
but,
At $355 and not done yet, by the time shipping and transfer to a FFL is added it's in a new LH CZ 452 price range, that ends it for me.
Posted By: Jim in Idaho Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/07/19
Yep, $380 now with a bit over 5 hours to go. Looking at the bid history there is one particular bidder who really wants this.

it's amazing what a little guerrilla marketing can do?
Posted By: Bwana_1 Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/07/19
I'm out, a new CZ model will work fine for me.
Posted By: OSU_Sig Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/07/19
I'm not surprised at how well this one sold.

Auction ended at $415.00, much higher than I anticipated.
Posted By: OSU_Sig Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/08/19
Seems pretty high but there seems to be a strong attraction for LH rifles with plastic mags...:)
Posted By: lundtroller Re: LH Remington 581 22 - 02/08/19
Had my RH 581 w/ mahogany or walnut stock out today with a couple of other 22's (ULA and 513S). Shot 5 different brand of ammo at 50 yards from a bench rest at 20 degrees. 10 shot groups.

The 581 held its own with the others and probably had the lowest average group size considering all 5 types of ammo! That was with a 4x M8 Leupold, too vs the SS12X on the ULA and Weaver 7X on the 513! Best overall group was the ULA w/ Rem 40g target ammo... 0.5" w/ 1 flier. I was surprised by the 581 as it was nipping on the heels of the ULAs best group.

Got one of the metal mags built and sold by one of our members on the 'fire. They are the real deal!

I bought one a couple years ago off Gunbroker , think I paid around four hundred when all was said & done. It is every bit the equal of my CZ 452 , which is to say a very accurate 22 sporter.

I have seen them go higher on Gunbroker , much higher.

I bought a "lefty" Remington 581 a few years back at my local gun shop for $275.00. I thought I had paid to much ...now I don't. The rifle appeared unfired with just a 1-inch nick in the stock finish. The Rem 581 sat next to a Lefty Remington 788 in 6mm for $350.00. I had no interest in a left-hand Rem 788 in 6mm.
