Fed Ex stopped by and delivered my LH Forbes 24B that I had Melvin at NULA rebarrel, repaint, and do his magic. originally 30-06 Blue barrel now 280 AI SS Barrel.

6# 5 ounces with 2 X 10 SWFA and Talleys.

Hope to shoot it and see how it does, when I mounted scope and checked bore sight it was zeroed to bore sight before I adjusted scope, always a good sign.

Nice rig! Congrats! Let us know how it shoots.
Looks good !
That’s a good lookin shooter. Congrats
Great lookin rifle!
Shot it today accurate 4 shot groups 280 loads around 1" windy conditions, great trigger, stock finish is rough on cheek. Like the rifle.

Melvin refinished rifle, bedded stock, went through the action, and new barrel for about the going rate for a rebarrel. I called Mevin today and thanked him.

A good affordable option for a leftie, find a LH Forbes, and send it to Mr Forbes!
Very, very nice!
If you don't mind, how much did it set you back for the Forbe's makeover?
PM sent
Nice looking rifle Kurt
Very nice rifle in one of my g=favorite calibers.

My Proof 280AI loves the Hornaday ELDS 162 grain loads.

Very nice rifle. Perfect for the Ackley.

lefty
Nice gun. I need to get mine to Melvin for an LOP change. The original owner had long arms. Will eventually be able to shoot it a lot. 308 is one of my weekly shooting calibers if I shoot at all. Be Well, Rustyzipper.
I am curious what this upgrade costed you? I have a lh Forbes 270 and a nula 25-06. I want to have one re-barreled but can't decide which yet.

Thank you in advance.

Jon
$833 less shipping and new Talleys but call Melvin for an estimate.
Rustyzipper, I just sent mine to Melvin for exactly that, Lefty Forbes in 7/08, it had the standard 14” LOP I believe they all came with, I had him make it 13.5”, and he had to repaint the whole stock also, said it was a must if he was going to shorten it, $265, I had it back in about 6 weks, came out perfect!
Thank you
My LH Forbes .280AI shoots so good I don’t want to mess with it.
I purchased a stainless barrel left hand Forbes in 280 AI a few weeks before they filled bankruptcy; price was 1,650. The rifle did not feed the first round round from the magazine well so I called Melvin and he agreed to work on the rifle and check for any other issues. He polished the feeding ramp and gave the gun a look over for a clean bill of health. With 62 grains of RL 26 a 160 grain Nosler AccuBond at 3,015 FPS it will shoot three shoot groups of .4 to .7 inches with a average in the .5 to .6 range. With a leupold 2.5 x 8 scope, butler scope lens covers, sling and four rounds of ammo it hits 6 pounds and 15 ounces.
I did not know that the Forbes LH was chambered in the 280 AI must have been very few made.
My best load so far has been 60 gr RL 26, Peterson 280 AI brass, CCI 200 primer , 160 gr Nosler Accubond about 2930 fps. Peterson brass heavier than RP or Nosler brass. Have not been able to get
162 gr Horn A Max to group without fliers?
168 GR Nosler LR AB , 59 Gr RL 26, CCI 200 primer, Peterson Brass, 2835 FPS well under 1". 24" 280 AI.

Rifle did well on bou hunt yesterday shot a cow caribou middle of the lake top of the heart
Is this a push feed rifle?
Yes, push feed.
K,
That is a great-looking rifle.
I really like that rifle. How is the recoil?
Not bad the stock design helps a bunch, shot my caribou 515 yards high heart shot 3 X 9 SWFA bad light, spruce tree rest winter conditions.

Bud could not hit one loaned him my rifle but dropped round snow got in action off round and would not chamber, so that ended that. Artic conditions can cause failures.

No first hand experience. However, thinking this is probably a bit of an understatement...

If it were CRF snow would not have prevented it from chambering smile
