I saw a FAIR for sale on GB today. Neat looking setup. 20 gauge/ 22 Hornet. I do wonder how well it’s made. Looked sorta like an entry level gun. Anybody got the 411 on these?
Iron Cowboy Gunshop had it listed.

I couldn't find the one you are talking about, mine, I would not say its entry level in any way

Ken,

Use FAIR Combi in the GB search in guns-firearms.

What caliber is yours? Where did you buy it? I’ve been wanting to try a drilling or combination gun for a while .

www.simpsonltd.com

Simpson, LTD. imports used firearms from Europe in shipping container size lots and regularly has combination guns and drillings. They currently have an interesting looking Krupp drilling for $1,600.

It's not a bad drilling, and Simpson might discount it 10%, since it's been there a while. There will be some work needed to the stock. It has three significant visible cracks, and will no doubt be cracked inside behind the receiver, having a Blitz action. I'd offer $1,300.00, knowing there is about $300.00 worth of work needed to the stock. The receiver looks a lot like a pre-war Kreighoff. Many small makers bought Sauer, Merkel, and Simson receivers to build on. August Wolf uses Simson/Merkel receivers to this day.

Go to gunbroker, click on Firearms for Sale, type in FAIR Combi. they will pop up. Nice looking guns.

Not a bad looking gun. I assume the weight to be 6 pounds and not 16 pounds. I think I’d opt for the .223 rifle caliber. Gives a few more options, even deer, when out on a walk with it.

I called Iron Cowboy about those guns. I really want a 20 gauge and a rifle caliber with a little more pop to it. The whitetails in GA are generally not monsters but I would feel more confident with something more than a .223. Iron Cowboy says that it’s hit or miss what FAIR guns that they get and when they come in. I’m just trying to source one that’s on the shelf somewhere.
I also have my eye on a drilling that was made in 1956. It’s 16-16-7x57 R. It’s a JP Sauer and Sohn.
$3300.00 without scope nor mounts. Just a pop up rear sight and set trigger for rifle. What’s involved with installing the QD type bases on a clean barrel gun?

QD mounts installed on that gun will probably run $2000-$2500. But it’s the only way you’d want to hunt with it. I’m of the hope and belief that getting it done will bring that much value to the gun. I’m contemplating getting it done to my newly inherited Colt Sauer drilling in 12/12/.243. Keep in mind you still need a scope. You’re gonna want a scope of European ancestry to match the gun, Ziess, Swarovski etc. Them ain’t cheap so budget another $1000 at least. But if you do all that, you’ll have a fine drilling to hunt anything in Georgia! New England Arms (603-287-4836) or Lee LeBas (775-230-2089) can do it. I have spoken with both and will probably flip a coin later this week to see who I’ll get to do it. I didn’t get my Wyoming sheep tag so I can use that money for some QD mounts. Good luck!

You might strongly consider Recknagel swing mounts, instead of Suhler claw mounts, probably AKAHs. The Recknagels cost about 1/3 less, and I prefer them.

If you send your gun to Lee, let me know. I'll beat him on the head to get it done. wink I'll be taking a Fortuna 12/12/7X65R drilling to him to change out the claws for Recknagel.
